If any one lives in delaware and looking for a baby please consider adopting him. delaware.craigslist.org/pet/569247825.htmlI found this guy on cragislist (I hate people sometimes). The girls roomate is alergic she is getting rid of him (lucky for him) . His home is a bird cage. I would take him if I could but I just can house another ferret right now.

I didn't realize there was already a thread on this. I emailed her and scolded her about the whole $150 adoption fee. She lowered it, but I haven't gotten the exact price yet. I told her the bird cage is inhumane and that she should sell it separately to recover the costs she wants. I want to get him: I live only an hour and a half from there, but I'm not going to reward this person by giving them a ton of money for being uninformed and irrational. I was hoping that a shelter might be able to talk them into surrendering him. As much as I'd love to have him, I just want him to get away from those people...

I've got an update. This is what they emailed me when I asked him about the adoption fee:
$100 but if I don't sell him for that I'm going to keep him and buy a new cage when I have the money. The birdcage is as big as some ferret cages and I've put plenty in it so he can climb and play.

If I don't get at least most of my money back I'm going to keep the ferret in a pathetic cage and make 'em miserable? ? What a nice attitude this one has

Doesn't anyone research pets before they make a commitment anymore? I bet this is one of those cases where the person walks into a pet store and goes awwwww and then gets rid of it a day later. Stupid

I also want to know why she can't return it to the petstore if it was the day before....

That's what I said. She said she has the receipt, too. She says they wont take him. Why? I don't know. He's so young he'll sell fast anyway. I told her then she should never shop there again. And Abu, I guarantee you're right. Didn't realize what they got themselves into, and wanted her money back. Ugh.

I doubt it, I bet shes trying to make a profit and "rehome" her ferret for more than she paid...Just bc she says if she cant get 100 she plans on keeping him? Sooo what about the allergic roomate? And btw I wonder if people are really allergic, before I got Abu I asked my allergy dr to test me first and she didnt even have a test...

For some reason this particular CL ad really bothers me and I'm having visions of what the poor kit will look like in 2 weeks in a birdcage. I don't like the roommate allergies excuse then she'll keep it if she doesn't get her money and "eventually" get a bigger cage - hmmm guess the lack of money decreases allergies??? Anyway I spoke with Fathernature and have a proposal if anyone is able to help. I will give the $100 to get the little one out of this mess (mind you I don't like giving in to these kinds of people) if someone can pick him up and then we can manage to get him to Fathernatures. Keith suggested a "train" so to speak of people living short distances from each other but closer to Wood Ridge in Bergen County, NJ. Please if anyone can let me know if they can help it would be greatly appreciated. You can PM instead of post if you'd like. Thanks, Carol

This is what she says about the allergies: She does have an allergy probem... If he stays in my room and she doesn't come near him she's fine. I really want to see the best for him, but aren't we encouraging her to do this again if we give her a Benjamin for her mistake? I wonder if there is something else we can do...

I agree completely - I hate condoning this type of behavior but I think the cage is what is getting me to think this is a really bad and potentially dangerous situation for the little one. Anyone who would purchase a ferret and think a birdcage is acceptable has no clue what proper care is for the kit. Any other time I would say get a rescue to step in but since she already stated she'd keep it that is what brought me to my decision.

Okay I dont know how to post a reply to a comment but hzlbrwniz I could get him and let him stay at my place until we could find other arrangements I just dont think I can keep him long term as I have 4 already and a 2 level ferret nation cage. If I can do anything to help please let me know. Also a bird cage as large as a ferret cage look at it there is no way that is suitable for any type of ferret. I feel so bad for him.

I have emailed this person and have gotten the same reply as others above. I told her Oxford could take this baby, but that we were in no position to pay a $100 adoption fee for him. She also told me how big the bird cage way. Just not exceptable in my eyes no matter how big it is. She also told me he get plenty of out of cage play time per day. I also am having trouble believing that. I gave her suggestions about litter and food in case she does keep this lil guy. I hope we can get him out of there somehow before she just lets anyone buy him. He could end up in a worse situation than he already is. I know Claudia of Oxford will take him and we could get him a good home then, she is just not in a position as a shelter to pay what this woman is asking. If THE LAZY HAMMOCK FAMILY is willing to all donate, I think we could raise his fee and I could pick him up and keep him until I meet up with Claudia. I only live 15 minutes from U of Delaware where he is. Just an offer. I hope we can do it for his sake!

Well, good luck! I hope this baby gets in a better situation. It sucks that this person is going to be awarded though... I've been asking around various circles about that transfer to Father Nature in case that's the route you choose...

I had emailed her too. She is probably thinking oh boy so many interested!!! I don't think she should be rewarded for just jumping in and not getting the right cage or even studying on him first before buying. Not trying to start anything or get anyone upset just my thought on it. She should take an offer and sell the bird cage. I was wondering if it would be considered animal cruelty for not having the appropiate cage or inhuman? Just a question and only wondering not jumping. Sometimes people will surrender them if they know they could be faced with that kind of thing. Can't they just go in and observe how he is and what she is feeding him make sure he is being cared for correctly? Again just thoughts on this I would be very disturbed to see that she would have learned nothing and possibly do this again. I feel so bad for the little guy.

Ok I need to step in here. I don't condone buying an animal on impulse, you all know that right? But this is a bit out of hand here. I know you all want to save this kit, but the kit isn't in a bad condition or needing medical help. If someone is willing to purchase the kit from her at 100 go for it, thats the cost of kits in the store.
I don't think we all need to be going so crazy over this one CL listing. Trust me there will be MORE! If you arn't in a position to take in anymore ferrets DON"T LOOK AT CL!!!!!

I just posted this in hopes that someone looking for a baby in DE would see this ad on here and adopt him instead of going to the store. Even though I am not looking for a ferret I am looking for a dog I saw the ad and posted it as others have done when they see ads.

I am not sure she lives in the dorms. I just assumed that is where she worked. But I have no idea. Well Oxford is a go and will definately take him if we get the money for him somehow. Whatever is decided we are ok with. No need to transport across country to another shelter, when a local shelter is stepping up. JMO.

I think that she should be asking a lower price, but that's just my thing. I posted hoping that a shelter could talk some sense into her. Originally she wanted $150 for the kit. I lectured her and got her down to $100. I told her a bit about caring for a kit. She said she would get him a new cage eventually. I honestly, would rather raise some money for a cage for the kit and educating the owner rather than raising money to give to her to reward her for her stupidity. I'm, personally, am not mad about it. I just thought I'd take a stab at it.

Yes, that would be the plan if we can raise the money and if she in fact has not sold him yet. I will contact her again and see if she still has him. If anyone wants to donate money toward his fee you can paypal to me at dbickling@msn.com Do not send money until I have verified that he is still available. Thanks for helping this poor baby guys.
