As I'm sure you all know, Father Nature's is temporarily closed, and will reopen once they are able to rebuild a safe environment for the fuzzies. Being the loving people that they are, MN & FN cannot just turn away. I am currently fostering for FN, but they will still need some additional help. If you are in the position to foster (and live close by), please contact FN. Here are the babies that are currently under my care: Tinkerbell, Angus, and Tyler. Tinkerbell had adrenal surgery last Sunday. She is doing much better; her energy level increases every day. Angus & Tyler were just rescued from a shelter. Angus is a strong, energetic little guy; he is already getting his fuzzy butt into some mischief. Tyler, on the other hand, isn't as strong. His back legs are weak from malnutrition. With some TLC (and of course, duck soup ), we will do our best to nurse him back to health. Here are some pictures of the babies. TinkerbellWhen she first arrived.Getting some water through a syringe. Tink was too tired to drink on her own, so we had to make sure she had enough water so she didn't get dehydrated,Current pictures - These were taken today. Tink looks and feels much better.. Apparently, she even feels well enough to poo on my bathroom floor. AngusTylerPlease send your prayers and good thoughts to these sweet babies.

Just thought I should add... Tinkerbell is in no way being hurt in the picture where she is being given water. It may look like her head is beiong held tightly, but it's not. So don't worry.

Awwww, Tinkerbell is the sweetest face I've ever seen!!! I wanna hold her tight and cover her with kisses!!! It's weird the coincidences. Tinkerbell is also the name of a lady ferret we rescued a few months back and she's now having very serious adrenal problems. Just like yours, she's a white ferret too..Altho, she can't undergo surgery and the guy who is keeping her (that amazingly is called..Tyler... ) is considering blood transfusions..She's an oldie, she's 6yrs and a half and suffered a lot for the stress of being bounced throughour Italy at such an old age. Her humans decided to drop her as fast as possible when she was 6 and had spent all of her life in the same house with his brothers and sisters. When a few months before she remained alone due to the death of her older brother, they dropped her.. Humans are mean... So, if you can add a few prayers for our little italian Tinkerbell..thanks!!!

I'm not really prepared right now for fosters, but I could probably foster in upcoming months... once the kitten comes home and is settled in and stuff... The pics are sweet, and I'm glad FN keeps the ball rolling, even in the worst of times.

misstee, I will say a prayer for the Italian Tinkerbell. I know there's several other medical treatments for older ferrets with adrenal.
I'm not the expert with this though. In fact, this is my first post-op but I have FN & MN's help every step of the way. Rose (angiesong2000) is the expert with sick fuzzies and she can explain other medical treatments for adrenal. You can send her a PM and she will let you know what else can be done.
You are right about humans. I just can't understand how they can be so careless about an animal.
tiedyed69peace, Thanks for the offer to foster but you live too far away. We need foster homes that are close to our vet as well as within close driving distance to FN & MN. Emergencies happen and just the other night I had to take Tinkerbell up to the vet's office at 12:00 AM. Needless to say...I woke the vet up. But it was better that I woke him up instead of me staying up all night with worry. Tink was ok but you never know; I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Tink is improving every day. She knows that she has new tenants upstairs in her FN cage. She stands on her hind legs and reaches up and sniffs. A week ago she couldn't care less so this is a good sign. Keith (FN) came by yesterday to bring the new babies and he said that Tink has gained weight since she has been here. Karen said the same thing but it's hard for me to see it because I'm with her 24/7. She is such a good little girl; she's a sweet heart.
Keep them in your prayers.

I wish I were closer, I would love to take in a few for a while, or even keep them here and find new homes for them in Texas.
It's wonderful that there are folks like you around to take ferrets while FN rebuilds.
BTW, Tink looks great!

Thanks Rose; we are trying and learning as we go along. I do have a lot of help from Karen and even Tommy is great with all the pets. He has been cleaning our ferret potties (he always did because of my back) as well as the cat box and I have been doing to fosters cage. Well, Tink dooked tonight when she was out exploring with Angus. They instantly bonded and since Tyler has trouble walking, Angus would rather be with Tink. However, Tyler is doing much better, he only falls over when he gets excited and tries to run. Other than that, he's doing pretty good. I'm waiting for the day that he starts to war dance. That will bring tears to my eyes. Well, I have to go now. I have to wake the fosters up now for their last batch of duck soup and their meds, then its back to sleep for the night. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts.

So, as it turns out, Tyler (DEW - FN foster) is deaf. From what I've read, and from talking to FN and MN, you treat a deaf ferret exactly as you would one that can hear. If anyone has any suggestions or input that they would like to share, I'm always open to suggestions. I've never taken care of a deaf ferret before, so this is new to me.
Tyler is my special little boy. He and his brother Angus need lots of love and attention, as I believe (judging by their behavior) they were left in a one level, tiny cage.
They'll be here for fosters for some time because after talking with FN and MN, they need to learn to trust and believe in people. They also need to learn social skills by interacting with both people and other ferrets.
Please send prayers and good thoughts to all the babies. They need all the wishes that our TLH family members can provide.

If anyone has any suggestions or input that they would like to share, I'm always open to suggestions. I've never taken care of a deaf ferret before, so this is new to me. You do treat them the same but you do have to be careful - especially if you want him to trust people - about sneaking up on him. They startle so easily. Also - wake him gently. My Buddy is deaf and to wake him up I usually stroke him and then pick him up. If he falls asleep someplace I can't reach him - I shine a flashlight in his face. If he's awake and I'm calling the ferrets I'll flicker the lights off and on until he comes. I can also use a "come here" hand gesture to get him to come to me. I have to say - Buddy is our ferret that acts more like a ferret than the rest - he's always exploring or climbing, dooks loudly, likes to pick at our dinners, was the first to eat duck soup and n'bones and loves to play rough.

So I have basically been in hiding lately. Talking to Rose (angiesong2000) and FN & MN only because Tink is not doing so well. She refuses to eat on her own and she will not eat anything other than duck soup and even that has to be fed to her by syringe. Still giving her water by syringe, she will not even eat the vite, tone, etc. She is however very feisty and we just can't figure that out because she can't have much energy without any regular food in her. She is so slick too because when we put the water or duck soup in my mouth, she stops it from going down her throat and she pretends to be chocking. This one is really testing my limited nursing skills but I am determined to keep pushing through. I just can't lose this one so everyone please say a prayer for this baby.

Thanks so much poppy. I look forward to reading your posts because you always have such nice things to say. I have been doing so much lately and your posts are so inspiring to me so thank you. On a good note....My Rock Stars -- Angus and Tyler are doing great. I took them over to see their real owners; F & MN the other night and they said that both babies look good. Keith said that Tyler is walking so much better and he's gained some weight. I have to thank Auntie Rose for that because she tells me all the tricks and tips to make sure they get whatever they need to excel. And they really are because we looked at pictures today of when they first arrived. OMG!!!! They looked so skinny; especially Tyler. I can tell that he gained weight. He's my sweetheart; he sleeps with me at night and whenever one of us wants to nap, we all fight over taking Tyler. Angus is starting to play with my other babies. He's still a little shy but I'm hoping he snaps out of that soon. I know he really likes Tink and she likes him very much so maybe a little love affair will bloom.

Hoping you got my PM about the pillow case. I should be around today after 11'ish. I have to get my hair cut-I look like Pig Pen ! And then....I am working tonight at 4:30 till 8:00-Blahhhhh !
This may be a silly Q-but is she in an upright position when she's getting fed the soup & pedialyte? From the pic's it looks like she's a little low and leaning to the side. This sometimes will cause a gag reflex. Like I said in my PM-My sweet little Bea did this to me for 2 weeks after her infected tooth was removed. You are doing fine. Keep the faith !!!

Rose, I did get your PM and I sent you one back. I keep Tink in an upright position when I feed her. This pic was taken early on when Tink first started getting feisty. That was about the 200,000th time that Karen tried giving her some water and basically gave up. I wrote back in my PM about what I was doing to feed Tink and I have some good news so you have to read the PM first. Everyone else will have to wait for the good news until I hear back from Rose. She has walked me through every step of the way and she has stopped me from jumping off the bridge. So she has to hear the news first. Sorry guys!!! All I can say is.....it's really, really good news!!!! Stay tuned!!!
