Angie, I don't think it will help at all, but even without the shower you probably smell better than I do! ;D I'm PG & a totally gassy mess as a result. Last night the cat actually ran away from me & gave me a dirty look The fuzzies don't seem to mind it though!!! LOL When you know of any specifics you are looking for down the road I'm pretty good at digging random stuff up. I would love to help in any way I can. Keith brought in some chubbers for blood transfusions for Monty post sugery not long ago, & he's just a saint -- Evelyn too!!!

I found this on another ferret forum I visit..... Date: Sun, 25 Jan 2009 19:47:33 -0500 From: Kristeen Kohrs Subject: Fire at Shelter in NJ MetroFerret is a ferret club in NJ that provides support to three local shelters in NY & NJ. We don't post much but I am asking for your help. Saturday night one of our supported shelters, Father Nature's Ferret Rescue in Wood-Ridge, NJ had a house fire. They lost everything. Just 3 ferrets survived the tragedy. When we heard from the shelter dad, Keith, this morning his primary concern was vet bills for the survivors and to cremate the ferrets that perished. MetroFerret will match the first $500 in donations made through us. There are several ways to make a tax deductible contribution through MetroFerret that will go directly to Father Nature's. MetroFerret is a federal 501c3 charity which will allow for your donations to be tax deductible. Every donation will receive a tax deductible receipt. I will send donations to Father Nature's as they come in and give Keith and Evelyn a list of donors. You can always send a check made payable to MetroFerret 33 Arrowhead Drive, Branchburg, NJ 08853. On your check just note that it is for Father Natures. Donations can be made via PayPal to admin@metroferret.com or at this link. <https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=2762982> Lastly you can make a donation through our JUST GIVE account at www.justgive.org/giving/donate.jsp?charityId=6593 They do deduct a small administrative fee before the donation gets to Metro but you will be emailed a receipt and have the option of charging your donation if you are not a PayPal user. I haven't spoken to Keith and Evelyn this evening as I am sure they are getting some much needed sleep. I am sure they will be needing everything to get going again. I am putting together donations of ferret supplies including hammocks, litter boxes, water bottles and bowls. I am happy to collect this stuff in my garage until they are ready for it. I also have a large amount of fabric and I am looking to see if I can get someone (local) to do some sewing. I know that times are tough all around but even a $5 donation will get $10 to Keith and Evelyn's shelter to help the ferrets in NJ. Please whatever you can do will help. These are two great people who do not deserve what happened them last night. They are heartbroken for the ferrets -- lets do all we can to make sure there good people can continue the great work they have done for the ferret community. ----------------------------------------- Kristeen Kohrs President Metropolitan NY/NJ Ferret Welfare Society www.MetroFerret.com

What an awful thing to happen to 2 people who love and take care of ferrets. I could not believe my eyes when I read about this on the other forum I subscribe to.......I even checked Woodridge NJ news online, hoping it was a terrible mistake. I will be praying heartedly for them, I feel so bad about this!

Woah.... Well... a friend of mine read my blog & saw my ad on craigslist and asked me to swing by her house. She told me she didn't really have any extra $ to donate, but wanted to help. She donated a huge tote/tub of fabrics and scrap fabrics for me to use to make some ferret stuff to sell and donate the $ to FN. I guess I know where I'm going to spend my evenings for the next few days.... I'll post up my barter blog in the crafts section when I get pieces done, and will get cracking on advertising around town

I wanted to share a tiny bit of good news. Heather (Mayhem's Mom) has been fostering a little sable girl named Sissy for Keith, so there is one more survivor.

i have only felt this helpless one other time in my life and i just hate this feeling.

Krissy - it won't hurt.
Back in Dec I received a call from one of my former Petco workers that they had these nice cages on clearance for $15 each - did I want them for "Father Ferret". They had 2 and I bought them both. My daughter and I brought them up to the rescue.
So I called her today to see if there are other stores that have them at that price. She's going to check into it. But when I told her what happened she said they have a corporate visit tomorrow so she's going to ask her manager and dm if they can make some kind of donation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
It NEVER hurts to ask!

ok, well... i just got home a while ago from spending the day with keith and evelyn. first off, a special message from both Keith and Evelyn to everyone here at the hammock, they want you all to know they know you are sending your love and support and as soon as they have the strength, they will come here and thank you themselves. they want to thank everyone that has donated also.
I will also say that we have some pretty fast donors here, cause there were bags and bags of clothes lined up in the dining room! they are pretty set as far as clothing.
Matt should be on shortly to update also... he spent the day there too.
and Rose, i hope you got that shower, i squeeze one in before i left this morning.

OK... It is 9:30 PM, and I'm home and back online. I haven't read posts or PM's yet. 2+ pages (& many PM's) is alot, and I want to get to the update. So please forgive me if some of my info is "old news".
First off... (from Keith, Evelyn, and myself) THANK YOU to EVERYONE that has helped so far, in whatever way. The amount of clothes alone that have come in so far (first 36 hrs) is AMAZING. So with that said... Please hold off on the clothes. K & E don't want them to go to waste. Leave it to them to think that way - LOL. But seriously though... With what we have now, and what is already on it's way, it is good for now.
The donations ARE coming in, and we are SO grateful for them. So as for all $$$ donations... All funds will go to "rebuilding" Father Nature's Ferret Rescue. If anyone would like any amount to go to Keith & Evelyn for "personal" use (example - toiletries, necesities, a cup of coffee, etc...) PLEASE specify... otherwise, the funds will go to the Rescue.
As for household items and furniture... You guys are great, those things will be VERY appreciated... So PLEASE hold on to them until the time comes. We will try to take note of you guys, and we will contact you when the time comes. This also goes for Shelter supplies as well... When the time comes.
Now a brief update on our dear friends, Mom & Pop Nature.
Today was a better day. Not a "good" day... but better. Our friends' hearts are SHATTERED. Sorry...No other way to describe it. The two of them went to the house this morning, early, by themselves, to go through their home. Just about EVERYTHING is destroyed. Between the fire, heat, smoke, water and colapse damage... It's gone. So for today, I spent the day with Keith, and Ricky (aka: Fizzle)went with Evelyn. We went out to take care of stuff. Evelyn and Ricky went to do their things, shopping for necesities and such. Keith and I went to run errands... bank, med prescriptions, eyeglasses, etc. I will spare the details, but say that it WAS a productive day. Keith and I spoke alot about things good bad and ugly, in drips and drabs, often looking like two "wussies", spontaneously crying and hugging!!! Hey... It's OK... We are comfortable in our skins, Damnit!!!
So that is it for now... My how my "brief" update has progressed... Sorry!!! Tomorrow, K & E will do their thing together, and I will go back to that darn Rat-Race. I will speak to them tomorrow and an update if there is anything new and substantial to add.
Thak You Again, Matt Kostyk

other than that, right now there is nothing they can take in cause there is no where to put it. if anything comes up, i will post it though. Okie That means I can not worry about clothes/stuff like that and work on a couple of things I want to do for K&E. I'm still working on a small fundraiser type thing though and have a couple of things listed up on CL to try to generate a few extra $. Had to break away from the sewing machine again cause of my shoulder throbbing and the muscle relaxers not kicking in. I did however get a couple ferret dolls done except for the hand stitching I need to do to close them off. I've actually got a couple of ferrents at work that I'm going to talk to tomorrow. Got some horse type crap in the works coming out of the sewing machine and a few jewelry pieces already done up... after all I do live in Kentucky and that's a hook line and sinker for selling stuff. Talked to friends at our reg pet store today, and they said I could set up a little thing to sell some stuff there too. So assuming the city doesn't go hay-wire of the possible weather to come, that should be promising.

I haven't been on TLH for a few days and just read the thread about Father Nature's fire. To say that I am shocked and devastated is an understatement. I have known Keith and Evelyn for about 2 years and have adopted 2 of the world's greatest fuzzies (Kujo and Gizmo) from 2 of the world's greatest people. My heart goes out to them and their babies they have lost.
Rose and Matt..... I am thankful that you are there for them and are assisting them in getting their lives back together. You too are very special people.
Tears, Prayers, and Hugs to Keith and Evelyn. We all share in your sorrow but more importantly share in your hope for the future.
Bill

OK... I have caught up on THIS thread... so I will answer a few ?'s and touch on a few points/comments. (Sorry if I don't include all names, too many)
Rose (aka: Angiesong2000) - Didn't you smell like that at our Halloween Party?
Nicole (aka: Darklight) - As Capt. Jack (and Izzy) said: "...But WHY's the Rum gone?"
(Sorry... It felt good to joke a bit)
Seriously though... The "official" cause of the fire: The fire started between the Boiler (steam heating system) and the Water Heater. So it was caused by one of or the comination of the two... Which is "bitter" good news, as in this means it was of "NO FAULT" as far as K & E are concerned. This helps with the Insurance process.
The Survivors: The fire happend SO quickly... But Keith somehow grabbed Charger, one (or 2) firemen got Samson and Irwin.
The Lost Ones: I assure you (everyone), our little fuzzies passed out from Smoke Inhalation. *Sorry for the graphic discription* but the fuzzies were in "sleeping" positions, and NOT burned. I too believe that this was a "good" thing. Everyone says that the smoke gets you first, and until now, I had to believe this... but I NOW know (in this case at least) that this is true.
One last thing I'd like to point out. I am a "realist"/ borderline pesimist... But after this experience, I have found new respect in finding the "good" things in a BAD situation. With that said, I would like us ALL to (try to) put aside the number of 25, and focus on the 3... AND the 650+... the ferrets that have passed thru FN's to find their ways into their LOVING Forever-Homes!!!
I am now going to get to the PM's... I will answer them ASAP... maybe not tonight, but definitely by tomorrow.... I'm exhausted!!!
Goodnight Folks, Matt

I am so sorry to be late to this news. I hope that everyone on TLH can reach deep in their pockets and send what they can. A very sad sad day for the ferret community and I hope the very best for Father Nature and Mother Nature.
I will be going over to make my donation now. Every dollar counts and I can't imagine going through this.
Matt: Thanks for the updates.

oh and feel free to post all links and anything you deem necessary. No approval needed and no rules will be broken in this situation.
I encourage bedding sellers to post links to items for sell in which you will be donating proceeds to Father Natures.

I know a bedding seller that is not part of The Lazy Hammock. She suggested getting a raffle going, and she would donate some bedding... If anyone is thinking in the future of doing this, let me know so I can give her the green light to participate...

I am so happy we are able to help out. This community is like a second family to me. One that likes my little fuzzies and doesnt think they are rodents (my parents never watch them for the reason But anyway... I have alot of house hold items that once things are getting back in order and can be delivered i am on my way up. So once matt or rose say the word I am sure by then i will have lots of stuff gathered. Wish i could just help out more. I do not know how anyone can come back from this, BUT FN and MN are very strong and tough people and they know they have alot of support. We can make our own home edition makeover ;D

Matt/ Rose please let FN know that the money sent to him and anymore I can send, I want them to use it to get on thier feet or in whatever way they see fit. I trust them to do whats right for them and the fuzzies. I will still be there for them when the time comes to get the shelter back in order. But I know they first must get themselves taken care of first before anything else.
On another note the mods have discussed on doing another raffle fundraiser like last year maybe in a couple of months. So we will be accepting donations at a later date and will let you guys in on how and when it will operate.
