I thought since everyone is so down and out because of the tragedy that has struck this community.... I thought maybe we could bring a little of that sugar obventions was talking about out into the Ferret Chat. If anyone feels up to it, post a (heartwarming, funny, cute et cetera) story you have about Father Nature, his rescue or his ferrets. Maybe you have a story about your first visit, or a great Little Dude story... Maybe something about your fuzzies playing with the rescues fuzzies... Let's spread a little love to bring some laughter and smiles out of the tears... We'll then be well on our way to lining those clouds with platinum...

Last time we visited we brought Ditah back so she could see everyone again. I think it was Rose and Carol who said that even the most down trodden fuzzies would perk up and be playing like kits again once they got into the door. We thought we had figured out why. The entire time we were at his home Ditah kept bee-lining for this lead pipe near the door and licking it. Of course leave it to the ferret I bring to have an infactuation with a lead pipe.. I think everyone was laughing as I kept trying to pull her away from it just to have her race back over and start licking it again... So we figure that that pipe was laced with somthing, or that maybe lead is the magical substance to ferret happiness.... Or that maybe Ditah is just "special" lol...
Also, the very first time I got to see Little Dude after he had left my home in NY, I was so excited. I was finally getting to see how big he'd grown, maybe get a kiss or somthing. Nope. I get this sparkley eyed look and then poop on my jeans. I swear he was laughing at me as I set him down and he scooted off...

lmao! I bet he was laughing! How many people/animals do you know of that can get away with pooping on someone, and not even get a dirty look ?!?

Keep 'em coming guys... this is cool. I'm laughing (and crying a bit).
Nicole - I SOOO remember that day AND the "lead pipe" (tremendous LOL)!!! For the record: It wasn't a "lead" pipe... it is cast iron... but "lead pipe" DOES roll off the tongue better... "Colonel Mustard, in the Kitchen, with a Lead Pipe". Or even better: "Ditah, in the Living Room, with a Lead Pipe".
Thanks, Matt

the very first time i went to their house, i put peanut down in the living room and the first thing she did was back into a corner and poop. i was so embarrassed! but Keith laughed and said, "uh, hello! we are used to this and prepared" and he pointed to a huge roll of commercial paper towl and a spray bottle. that was my first poop clean up in their house and there would be many more. its funny, that corner that peanut backed up to was very popular.... i saw a couple more visiting fuzzies that came to adopt a cagemate back into the same corner she did... lol and you never ever saw a poop in that house... cause someone was always on poop patrol. thats just how it was. and if you saw it first you better clean it up! ;D (well, thats what they told me anyways... maybe they suckered me... hahahaaaa ) and every time i brought peanut over there, she played long and hard with the others, and then she would disappear.... we would look everywhere... then Evelyn would pull back the cage that sat in front of the fireplace and there would be Peanut and whoever she fell in love with that day curled up sleeping in a cat bed.

I think it is ferret life... hehe We've come to bring little poop machines/monsters into our home, who hold two primary purposes in life: 1. to poop as much as possible preferably in places they should not. 2. To cause as much trouble as possible (preferably without getting caught) While they're here, they give us many kisses, cuddles, hugs (and bites) along the way.

I promise to "hopefully" have my FN Story tonight. (I guess "hopefully" negates the promise) I will try, but definitely CAN'T promise to make it short... but that's OK.
Later, Matt

I just thought of this one last night... The very very first time we stepped foot into Keith and Evelyn's house we didnt get a "welcome to our home" or "hey, glad you made it ok!". Myself, my hubby and our friend Damon stepped inside and had ferrets tossed at us with Keith grinning "Here, have a ferret! If you see poop, youre in charge of clean up, otherwise sit down and relax!".. I think all 3 of us stood there with bewildered looks on our faces lol...

YES! and constantly busy... whenever i would come over, Keith is on the phone with someone about a ferret, has people there waiting to adopt, and is juggling ferrets. Evelyn would be cleaning cages, talking to herself (hahaha) telling Keith that its now time for the other group to come out to play, going behind Keith making sure he has the right fuzzie <hehehe> ... total madhouse 24/7. but that is just how it is at Father Natures.

I first met Keith and Evelyn when I was considering adopting a playmate for my then two fuzzies, Jake and Roxy. I was linked to their website via Petfinder.com and read their story and was moved by their sincerity. I arranged for a visit to Father Nature's to discuss the adoption process, or my 'interview" and took the two hour trip from Allentown, PA.
While Keith was casually quizzing my ferret knowledge, (or lack thereof), Evelyn went over to the cage in the living room and took out her little treasure, Blondie Boy, and handed him to me. BB was the sweetest little guy, but was very sick at the time. He was almost totally bald, but had a sweetness and charisma that is hard to describe. I put him up to my cheek and he started kissing my cheek and nose. Evelyn smiled, so I guess I passed the test. If Blondie Boy approved, it had to be okay with Evelyn and Keith! About an hour later, Kujo, a beautiful DEW picked me to be his new human companion. He got along instantly with my Jake and Roxy.
Jake was on daily prednisone for insulinoma at the time and Keith and Evelyn took care of he and the two others when I had to go on a few business trips. My guys just LOVED going there! As soon as they were let out of their carrier in the living room, they became Dookamaniacs! They had so much fun. Evelyn and Keith had a particular love for Jakie, who had his own special place behind their couch. When Roxy passed away in November 2007 and Jakie passed away in May 2008, they cried with me and helped me grieve. To make a long story short, I adopted Gizmo, a big bouncy boy from Father Nature's a few months ago. I now have three... Kujo, Gizmo, and Sweety (affectionately known as Miss Pie).
Father Nature's is a magical place. For those of you who have been there, you know exactly what I am talking about. Long live the magic.
Hugs to Evelyn and Keith and everyone who contributes here.
Bill

Hee, when I got to visit Father Nature's with my fiance I was so weirded at first. I never had my first ferret anywhere other then my house and I was going there to adopt another ferret so it was a bunch of first times for me. I decided to take Mooku with me to see if he likes his new brother and things. It is funny now that I think of it. So I take Mooku there on a 2 hour drive or so. The whole time Mooku is there and I am adopting another ferret (Gandalf yay!) he is totally being a terror, I was like flailing in his first outing. He totally stole every ferret toy they had their behind the TV and knocked over their trash and then Keith's other ferrets where starting to get out and I had no idea how Mooku would act with these other ferrets. I mean this is normal ferret behavior but I was like ACK MOOKU! (Being a first time ferret owner and having him in another house!) I was so paranoid about him being SO BAD THERE but I gotta laugh at it now and I know Keith kept telling me "its okay he is just being a ferret." Now I giggle and know he just had a freakin ball there meeting his new brother. Of course I know now that is all "normal" but it took Father Nature's to actually down to earth and hands on experiance to show me. I think of this now years later and that is my story. And I am sure Mooku would love to go back to cause more chaos

OK... I swore I was going to avoid the board tonight, but I lied. I am "fried", but was thinking of my Father Nature's Story. Well it is safe to say, I have AT LEAST a dozen... So I will post one tonight that we (K&E and myself) were talking about last night. Our Brutus is Insulinomic, diagnosed last summer. So in the process of getting his blood sugar leveled out, we needed to start testing him. So we had to learn how to "quick cut". That is to do what we are NOT supposed to do when we're cutting their nails. Needless to say... It is a VERY "anxious" experience (to say the least). We all went into the kitchen (aka: The Medical Ward). Now Kristi was NOT happy about having to inflict pain / bodily harm to one of our fuzzies, and was VERY edgy. Now you've gotta picture FOUR people tending one (not so measly) ferret at once. Well... Definitely THREE!!! Kristi & I were holding Brutus, while Keith explains the testing unit, how to use it, an how to perform the "cut". Evelyn was standing by with the Styptic Powder. So as we hold Brut and observe, Keith makes the cut. Well the cut (or lack there of) was a near miss!!! It drew blood but not quite enough. Brut "winced" and squirmed (just a bit) and Kristi started to cry... she was ALREADY upset from the get go. Keith said we would do another... NOT IF KRISTI HAD ANYTHING TO DO ABOUT IT!!! Needless to say she "spoke up" -LOL. Keith said it was no big deal... which pissed her off more. Well, a few colorful words later, I start snapping at Keith. I said that "You don't feel our pain... You've done this tons of times, you're de-sensitized already!!!" Now THAT is when Evelyn chimes in to "defend" her man!!! She yells at me for insinuating that Keith "doesn't care" about our fuzzy. At this time one must picture a scene from "I Love Lucy" where the two couples are yelling at each other to no avail. So to difuse the situation, Keith (the only composed one) tells me he hasn't ever done this either. Well for some reason we believed him and were "thrown off" and stopped arguing (yelling). So we, or Keith makes the second cut... Brut winced AND chattered and sqirmed... As did Kristi... but her wince was more of a squeel. Second time was a charm, we got the reading, and the deed was done. Now with Kristi (already crying) we ALL start apologizing to one another. Picture "Lucy" Scene again. Before you know it, We're all hugging and crying AND laughing!!! And then there is poor Brutus... Waiting for an N-Bone!!! Later, Matt

LMAO Matt, i can just picture the 4 of you going at it. and poor Brut thinking "you freakin clipped me! ouch!" meanwhile, once, Keith tried to tell me that i should test MY fuzzies blood every so often... and he (like he did you) tried to explain to me the process... i felt a little faint just from the thought of it. and hey, i dont mind seeing blood or guts... as long as I am not the one to blame. so i kinda just tuned Keith out and when he was done talking i told him i would bring my fuzzies over to him whenever he thought they should get their blood checked. its the least he could do for all the i have cleaned up. and some times it gets on my hands. Yuck!

i remember my first visit to the shelter. my solder son had just lost a ferret that we reieved from a friend, that ferret had lost his battle with the wifes 2 poodles, so we took him in. he was awesome to play with and very tidy in his cage. then he starte dlosing weight we took him to a loal vet but he passed in less than two weeks. my son was looking on the internet and he found rocket at father natures we read all about the rescue and were absolutely impressed. it was late like midnight but i told him to call anyway thinking that there would be an answwering machine (remember we had yet to meet kieth and evelyn) so robert weas suprised when keith answered but wouldnt talk about rocket until; the next day. the next day ame and we couldnt wait we drove up there (we live in cherry hill ats about 90 minutes) and i guess we aught kieth at a good time there wasnt anyone there exept himself and evelyn and all the wonderful ferrets, fuzzies as we now all them, we didnt adopt that day but we went through our first interview and bought ferrets for dummies made an appointment to come bak the next week for our final interview to see that we learned enough to be able to properly care for Rocket. We went back in a week and were told that rocket was sick and recieveing treatments for a breathing issue. but kieth had the answer (as always) he brought out Albi and Rembrant handed them to my two sons and it was magic, a match made in heaven. they took to each other like mayonase and ketchup (poor mans french dressing) we hadnt intended two adopt 2 but how could i not . we also started to help kieth with some things around the house im the idiot that moved the dirt in the back yard destroying the garage siding in the process, but not to worry i just resided it when we were done with the help of another friend. suring that process rocket was well again and we just couldnt help ourselves so now we have the three muskateers , and as i rememnber that story werent there 4 muskateers, well with the urrent tragedy i know there arent more for adoption right now but there is the future. i have read all the posts here and i have done my share of tearing up, i know what those fuzz butts meant to MN anf FN they were much more like children i cant imagine the anguish they are going through but this board is a ray of sunshine on an overcast day. i will be at totowa on sunday with my clan i cant wait to see kieth when he sees them . i also want to say maybe here isnt the right post but i have offeres my services to anyone here that needs home improvement work we are well versed in many things you can ask kieth as a reference... anyway what i would offer is to do the work at no harge in return for a donation to the rescue that includes painting carpentry plumbing electrical flooring, i cant think of anything else that i could do of course ill be there when he gets set up again to help in any way i can my email is bigboo9486@msn.com drop me a line and well talk. i wish FN and MN all the luck in the world but with the friends that i have seen here i know that they are already blessed with some of the best things in life. good friends

Zoo-- They're great people to visit. You always feel welcome in their home, and the only rules are that if you see the poop first you clean it up, and after you've been to the house once you're not a guest anymore lol..
