Always makes me wish I had millions of dollars so I could get something for all of them. Some of their pictures really break your heart.

It is disgusting how mean some of these people are... So many of them found wandering, or left unfed or untreated... ugh. I love to send something special to brighten at least one ferret's day. Last year, FN was on, but he thus far hasn't been added in yet. Offhand though, I saw there's like, one or two of our shelter members on there with some of their fuzzies.

Please note: the following is more of a rant of sorts, and has no ill will of the Ferret Giving Tree. I support the Giving Tree 100%. I always felt that way too, but then i saw another side of it.... not all, but some of these "sad" stories are just that... "stories". made up to make people feel so sad for the fuzzy that they want to empty their pockets for them. just think about it... how many "wondering" ferrets have you seen?( besides Clive lol.) Usually people drop them off at a shelter or a rescue... not a lot get put out on the street. that being said... the ferret giving tree is a great thing none the less and however they got to these shelters they still deserve a merry christmas and lots of love. I dont need a story to want to help out an animal in need of love and support and a toy here or there. just dont give me a false story and make a jerk of me thinking such awful things happened to a fuzzy just to get me to give money or send a gift. I would have done it regardless. IMO and i dont like to see others getting bulldozed either. [end rant]

[end rant] What a "downer" for this thread to remind people that the giving tree is up. /begin rant Sure, there are some unscrupulous shelter owners out there, but I would side with most of the stories being true. I realize you had a "rant" moment, but it just hit me the wrong way. Yes, ferrets are "put out" of their home, yes, they are dumped on the side of streets to fend for themselves, yes, they are dumped outside in their cages and left for dead and/or thrown cage and all in dumpsters, etc. etc. There are more unscrupulous ferret owners than there are shelter owners. Personal experience. /end rant

my rant was also from Personal experience, and unfortunately the rescue is listed on the Giving Tree and it made me snap.
I know there are MANY horrible owners, I know it might not be the right place to rant... so, sorry if i offended you or anyone else. it is what it is. i cant change it.

I don't really come across any wandering animals of any kind. It's weird (but good I guess)... but I have seen a few instances where people had missing ferrets wandering in my area... I don't know their stories or how they ended. I don't, however, doubt the countless stories of owners dropping off bald ferrets left untreated. That I can believe for sure. I'm sure some rescues embellish their stories. I've never seen them proved or disproved, and agree that that's not fair. I hate being lied to. I can agree with you there, fizzle. I'd rather hear the real story. A little boy was tired of taking care of his very much pampered six month old ferret and his mom didn't want to deal with it so sent him to the shelter... There's the real story, rather than a heartfelt story of a ferret wasted away dirty sitting in a basket at the shelter's front door. Just tell me the f'in truth. lol In any event, though, I hope that this year is unlike last year, and every ferret gets sponsered regardless, as like you all said, every fuzzy deserves a happy Christmas.

My father found a baby ferret in his garage. My parents tried very hard to locate his owner, but never did. I took him with the intention of finding him a home, but of course I fell in love with him and kept him. My neighbor had a paper route. Early one morning while out delivering papers she found a little ferret hiding under a bush. She took that lucky ferret home with her and kept him. Now I have a rescue adopted from CFO in Red Bank, NJ. Her story is, the CFO received a phone call from someone in upstate NY who found a baby ferret crying in the woods. The CFO director drove all the way to NY to pick her up. So yes, people DO dump ferrets just about anywhere and no, CFO is not on the Ferret Giving Tree.

Hey DoubleLibra - you're another one from New Jersey? There sure are a lot of us on the boards. I was scanning the Giving Tree and I couldn't believe the number of ferrets that some of the rescues are caring for! One of them had 72! My daughter and I could barely care for the 5 that we once had - not sure how those people do it. Sure hope they have a slew of volunteers.

Even if some people write horrible stories to make people feel bad and pick their ferrets, it doesn't always work. I know I was looking for young and hyper ferrets because I can make them toys that they will appreciate more than an old and sick ferret. I ended up picking one ferret, then finding another that I HAD to pick, so now I have two.

Yes, Crazyferretlady, I am from NJ too. I think I met you once at a Petco fundraiser for Father Nature after the fire. Where you there?
And to keep this thread on track, I chose my ferret from the tree and ordered his gift today.

Yes, Crazyferretlady, I am from NJ too. I think I met you once at a Petco fundraiser for Father Nature after the fire. Where you there? Yep - went with my daughter and we brought Mocha. Then we drove up to see my daughter and granddaughter who live about 10 minutes from the Totawa store. And to keep this on track - don't forget to use the flat rate priority mail boxes to save money on postage!

My ferret wanted an alligator bed and ferret treats. I ordered everything from ferret.com. That was so much easier than going to the store and to the post office. I got a nice email from Second Chance Rescue today.
