I thought one of the rules of this forum is to stay away from politics and religion. It is really one of the many reasons I like it so much. I just came in here and the first thing I see is a political add. Why? How long are you planning to keep it here?

I'm not a mod, but it is a proboards ad. Unfortunately, ads are something that come with a free message board I think you can contact Crystal to donate to make the site ad free, but we get so many hits on the site, it doesn't last long.

If that's the case, then we need ads for all candidates. I hate it though. You'd think they would leave the ferret lovers alone.

Unfortunately, it comes down to the mighty dollar... Not this forum's fault, but yet Proboards has to make a few bucks, huh?

Exactly like John said.
Unfortunately with as large as our member base is, and as active as the board is, 150,000 clicks doesn't go very far anymore. As much as we don't like ads on the board, it's one of things that has to be tolerated until a member or a staff member makes an Ad Free donation.
If you look at the bottom right hand corner of the ads, they will either say "Ads by Google" or "Paid for by ProBoards.com".

Our Staff members have been shelling out $14 dollars a month for the past year to make this board ad free. We can't afford to be the only ones paying for this service.
If you would like to have a ad-free board you can click on the link at the botton of the main page that says "make this board ad free", click it and make a donation. But please beware that it's $14 dollars a month.
As for the ads, proboards has a contract with google and those are googles ads. When I made TLH and choose proboards I read the rules and requirements. It's beyond TLH.
Thank you!

Ads are Ads. I just try to ignore them. As far as "ad free", As I wouldn't MIND (LOL) an ad free site... $168 a year can (and does) go to bedding supplies and/or donations to shelters.

With as many members as TLH has its very hard to keep the board ad free. I can't stand the ads either, but at least the ads here aren't as bad as the AOL ads!

I too just ignore the ads that don't interest me. I am a member on a few different type of animal forums and all of them have some type of ads. Most of the time I don't even notice them.

It's really not worth the money to keep adds off the boards. After all people come here to talk about there love for ferrets. Ignoring them is so easy. :-D

I didn't even notice there were ads that weren't for shelters, ferret food and eBay items.

Eeeaaarrr, ow do ya do that then I use Firefox, but did not know about that feature, do tell. The simplest way. addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/If you don't want yet another add-on, like me for instance, you can do the following. Edit userContent.css and add the following two rules: /* * Remove Google ads */ iframe[name='google_ads_frame'], a[href^='http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com'] { display: none ! important; }
/* * Remove Yahoo ads */ iframe[src^='http://ypn-js.overture.com'] { display: none ! important; } Save and restart Firefox. Keep in mind that neither of these two will block the ads that show up on the Google or Yahoo! homepages. You're SOL there. ETA: If you don't know how to edit your config files in FireFox, this will walk you through it. support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Editing+configuration+files#contentHave fun, and enjoy a faster load time.

I don't even notice ads unless they're about animals or games. Honestly, it shouldn't matter since TLH can't specifically choose what ads make it on here when the site is not paid for. I've run several proboards as an Admin, and while they let you choose a genre of ads, the odd and end political ads always break through among some oddball others.

I am not fussed by the ads on here, as you say, who cares what they place up there, if it keeps the site free, it's easy enough to ignore. But the idea of Firefox removing ads across all sorts of sites, which in turn increases the speed that the information I originally clicked on arrives, and also stops a load of junk Cookies, and the risk of things like spyware etc, clogging up my computer, suits me to the ground. So if something like that is available, why not find out how to use it. Well done Bob... Again. (we really need a manly hug icon, like this, but less errr... hmmmm... well you know... )

Well, I had a play, and I came up with this... Open to constructive criticism, and improvements... First attempt, I like it's simplicity, another attempt, to make it a bit more colourful.

don't forget it was mentioned that we also needed a smilie that was applauding, like a standing ovation.
I love the high five!
