I thought maybe some of the other shelter moms and dads might be interested in these.. Im actually sending one to Father Nature's with a whole bunch of other things..

Its a thermal heated sleepy sack. Right now, if youve got a petco near you, they SHOULD be on clearance for $27 (from like $60).. The full name of the thing is- K&H Thermo-Crinkle Sack

Heres a couple pictures of the one im sending to Keith. Its really nice, made of soft suede material with lots of cushy padding for the little furballs to snooze on..

That is a great item. I might have to get one for my sick little boy. I am sure that the poor sick fuzzies at FN will be lovin' it when it gets there and it looks like several can pile up in it comfortably. Thank you for thinking of the shelter babies all the time DL.

That dosen't seem so safe. What if they chewed the cord or spilt water on it?

My guess is it would be much like throwing a blow dryer in the tub with someone.

I was thinking safety too, but then again, if it's for a sick ferret, they may not have the energy or desire to be that rambunctious.

That's the point. Anything you give a ferret has to be ferret proofed in some form or fashion. This is simple. Keep water away from the pad, simple enough. For the cord, wrap it in tin foil, slather it in bitter apple, and your good. I have two ferrets that love electric cords, 3 that think bitter apple is a treat, , but I've never met one that likes tin foil. I've had to use heating pads several times for sick animals, and the simplest thing is just don't leave them unsupervised. If you have to leave them unsupervised, replace the pad with a hot water bottle or, my personal choice, boil river rocks, let them cool down a bit, wrap them in a nice fleece blanket and put them in with the ferrets. The ferrets can get as close to or as far from them as they want. The bigger the rock, the longer they retain the heat. DO NOT do this on you kitchen stove as river rocks when boiled for the first time have tendency to explode. Those rocks that make it through the first boil will be fine for additional boils so long as they don't start showing stress cracks.

Looks like the heating mechanism comes out from the back. This way you can run the cord out of the cage and away from the ferrets. Bob's suggestion is fine as well and they also make the cord protectors.

Yeah, that would work. Everyone should be aware that it does need to be modified in order to be safe.

It would be really good for elderly/sick fuzzies. Jill was so frail the morning that she passed we had her on a heating pad, they do come in handy.
