This breaks my heart everytime I watch it. Its of the ferrets in the Oxford Ferret Rescue that I posted a previous article about. So If anyone is thinking of Getting another ferret....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider a shelter before a petstore! Please. There are so many in shelters that need your help! www.oxfordrescue.org/whats_new/why_we_care_to_do_this.php

I held my brats when I watched that video, I am contemplating getting two more, just curios of mine would get along. It takes a lot of patience! My first bonded two that we rescued where fine together. Then when we rescued Mojito, Tonic would attack him to the point that he would bleed. There are many ways to deal with this. One is to let them go at it or the other is to scruff the aggressor. It was difficult to watch but I had to let it happen. Eventually Tonic calmed down. Then we got Kahloo and the same thing happened. We had them seperated for a good couple of months. Then Tonic settled down again and now they live together happily. Tonic doesn't attack any of them anymore. On other instances there isn't aggression. It really all depends and you can never tell untill the introductions begin. I suggest you taking one of your ferrets with you to the rescue to choose his new campanion.

One way to pick the right ferret addition is to bring your other two ferrets to "interview" the potential new guy. Check w/ your rescue to see if they will allow you to bring in yours. Our shelter did and we actually went through 2 ferrets before we found Kahlua, who played with Mojito in a way we felt was non-threatening and tame. (for background information's sake, the first ferret was a tiny female named Nala who had a great disposition but was entirely too small next to Mojito. The third ferret was a large brown male who rough-housed Mojito in an aggressive manner that reminded us too much of Tonic's fighting) Bringing in Mojito to pick his new friend was Crystal's idea and it worked beautifully. If bringing more than 1 ferret to interview sounds like a hassle (which it does), you can bring in your more passive ferret and once he/she finds a buddy you'll know at least those two will be ok. There was some tension and serious fighting between Tonic and Kahloo when we brought him home and we questioned our decision alot. This lasted for a couple of months and they had to sleep separated to keep us from getting up in the middle of the night due to fighting. Now any animosity has completely disappeared. Owners say that aggressive behavior between newly-introduced ferrets can last anywhere between 7 days to 7 months; just takes patience. I held my brats when I watched that video, I am contemplating getting two more, just curios of mine would get along.

I remember when that rescue happened, it was one of the sadest things that went through the ferret community in years. Luckily our community came together. Owners donated money and a lot of the ferrets were adopted. Backyard breeders are a still a pretty big problem. I have actually had the pleasure of meeting Barb Clay in person at Pooflinger get togethers. She is a fantastic woman, a good friend, who does a ton for the ferret community. For those who don't know she runs the Rocky's Shelter and was the point person on the Hagerstown Rescue.

I am always for adoption 110%

I made the video on the Oxford site. It took me so very long to do it, because each of those babies was so very dear to us. Most all in that video have not gone to the bridge. Claudia and I cry every time we watch the video. We play that video at our large fundraiser to let everyone know just how cruel people can be!

Aw, poor babies! Makes me want to adopt another! I think they know when you've adopted them out of a situation, Saibelle gives me kisses and sits quietly by my feet sometimes.

Wow, all these videos are so sad and makes me feel so ungodly guilty to be moving to a state where they are not allowed. I'm going to die when I have to give my three up for adoption. They are like my kids and to hand them over to someone else....I...I just don't know how I'm going to do it. i rescued all three and they are the best pets I have EVER had. I do know of a vet that can treat my babies when I'm there, but I hate to risk it and have some stupid neighbor say something and they be taken from me. The ironic part of my move...I'm opening a small pet supply shop (No animal sales) and noticed that all the other ones (In california) sell ferret supplies but yet they are banned.......gawd it makes me mad. I'm venting sorry, but these videos made me realise how much mor eI love my fuzzies and how hard it will be on me to NOT have them ever again......
anyone ever have to go thru this or know of rescues/possible permits or whatever in california to own ferrets? I'll do what ever it takes and pay whatever the cost to keep them, thats for sure.
User has been Banned: Reasons: Lieing Stateing that someone opened this account and it wasn't you. "oh seriously. someone else already told me about larissa post. I will tell you the same thing I told her.....the acount on that lazyhammock ferret thing is not mine. I never even heard of it. I'm tired of her bullshit and she needs to grow up. Whoever made that acount and tried to make it look I did is immature. Plus it';s not hard to find all those photos since they were all posted in ferretattitude anyway. This is getting really crappy. She needs to grow up. raverqueenage: I would NEVER say I made something when I didn't. I love racheals items she made for me and NOOOO she did NOT make that blanket, I did........and she knows that. I want to know who made that account on that other webpage. I'm pissed off." -Admin

I was trying really hard to adopt/own 1 ferret for now while we are bonding with Buttercup but after seeing those videos I'm probably going to adopt another soon. Before we got our girl I had contacted the only ferret recue that is close called SAFE. They have many ferrets that are in need of homes. I was going to wait a few months before adopting another ferret but now I'll move up the date. The person that I adopted Buttercup from was a woman listed on the SAFE website as a volunteer. She is a friend of mine and when I saw her name I called her to check out SAFE. She told me Buttercup's story and I picked her up a week later.

I know, that video made me all teary! People who abuse animals are the lowest of the low, and for all our sakes they need to be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It's a fact that people who harm people have most likely gotten their start with helpless animals. Thanks Carolyn for reminding me how important adoption is, I'll be adopting again next for sure!
