I am very sad to have to do this but, my husband and I just had a baby. We need to find a good home for our two ferrets Smokey and Duke. We have had them now for two years and they are very special to me. Since the baby has come we don't have much time for them anymore. I feel bad for them and that is why we are wanting someone that will be able to show them more love. They are litter trained, very good with kids and come with a four level ferret condo with all the hammocks they would every need. I hate to do this but I don't know what else to do. They use to be free roaming, then when the baby was almost here we decided to keep them in the cage for most of the day. They had 2 hour playtimes twice a day. Now its seems they are lucky if they get out for a hour once a day. Has anybody else had this problem. I really don't want to let them go, but I know that they need to be let out more often. But with the new baby I'm lucky if I get any sleep and a chance to clean our house. Maybe I'm just overwhelmed PLEASE HELP!

Oh please try to hang in there. As Velvet said maybe you can just section off a section of a room or even get them a large playpen. Crystal has a great set up at her house.

How old is your baby? I'm sorry things are a little rough now but it gets easier once you get used to a routine. At least it did for me. I would keep your ferrets for a while longer and see if things get better. They are in a safe home with you and you never know what kind of home they will will have if you adopt them out. Try letting them play in one room of the house or the bathroom etc as long as it's a safe area. You will probably have more personal time to give them soon and they won't suffer much until then.

Once the baby gets a bit older and doesnt need as much constant attention you'll probly have no problem getting back into a swing where the ferrets wont be a problem..
Like a few people have said, look into a play pen for them. you can get them pretty cheap at Ferret.com.. it would allow them out to play, but in a safe, easy to watch area.

Yup, get a playpen and corner off a section for them. I usually just open the cage and let them play in their playpen area. This way I can get things done and not feel guilty that I can't watch them. Usually they get from the time we get home 5:30 pm until the time we leave in the morning 7:30am of playtime and on the weekends they are out from friday 5:30pm until Monday 7:30 am. Here is a picture of their setup:
