This is killing me, not only because I love my babies, but because I'm doing the very thing I get upset with other people for doing - moving somewhere and leaving my fuzzies behind. Anyways, I need to find a new home for Fender and Goliath very soon (found out today we're moving out of state, leaving on Jan. 2). Fender is a silver mf female, about 2 yo (?) and Goliath is a sable mf male, about 3 yo(?). They've been to the vet recently for a check up, but I didn't do shots. Fender got an excellent bill of health. Goliath has probable adrenal issues. After much research, and because we caught it in the very beginning stages, I've been treating with daily oral melatonin. He may one day need surgery, just so you know, but as of now, he's almost fully furred again (his back was pretty bald) and has not shown any other signs. He had several tests done - I'll get a copy of their records from the vet soon. I'm asking a $60 adoption fee for the pair - they must go together, and stay together. They get along fine with other ferrets, cats, dogs. They're ok with kids - but they will attack ankles and such in play. Fender tries to take the socks off your feet, or from anywhere else she can find them. She also loves webkinz. Goliath just likes to try and stash Fender Neither of them are cuddlebugs, but it is possible to get kissies upon occasion, lol I also have a 2 story Ferret Nation for sale (does not have to go with the ferrets, but the adopter will have first dibs). It's under 6 months old. $125 I have bedding and accessories, litterboxes, etc. The adopter will get first pick and the cage buyer will get the rest (all free of charge). What isn't taken will be donated. I live in Pasadena, TX. Please email me for further info, I'll try to check the forums, but can't promise I'll have time. Thanks, ~Jennifer jennifer57@gmail.com ps - I don't have any current photos uploaded to the internet, but if you email me I can get you some. Thanks.

First of all, can I ask why you aren't taking them with you?
Second-it will be difficult to find someone who is willing to adopt a ferret that's adrenal. I have had a few in the shelter. Right now I have one that has been here for over 6 months, and one that passed away just last week who was also here for several months. Shelters are full of young, healthy ferrets so adopting a ferret that is sick is very difficult.
There is a shelter in the Pasadena area, Tricks and Treats, and one in Kingwood, Forever Homes Wanted. I'm a bit far from you but if you need a place for them I can take them. However, one of my requirements for a surrender is that their cage and supplies be surrendered with them.

maybe you should contact a shelter or rescue in your area and pay the surrender fee for your ferrets and donate all the items and cage to the shelter. Then they could be adopted out in time not haste.
just a thought

just an FYI, I don't charge a surrender fee, I just require the cage and supplies are surrendered with them.

I think that is a very fair and kind offer. If there were a time (God forbid) that I was not able to care for my fur babies my first priority would be finding them a loving and safe home. I would want all of their belongings to go with them so their adjustment would be easier. Finding them a wonderful home is better than charging a rehoming fee and selling their personal belongings.

That's exactly why I require all their stuff. It helps with the transistion, which is even more important if the ferret is ill. I just noticed Sterling in your sig. line, Mlove! She looks great. I miss that little one!

Sterling is precious and we love her so much. She is a good girl and dances all day long. Lily is loving having her in our family and the two of them play and nap on each other like they have known each other for years. During their war dance Vlad just looks at them like they are crazy. Sterling plays with all of her toys that you sent with her from her previous home. Her favorites are the fluffy ball and the super large jingle bell. Lily loves the bell too and they kick it around like a soccer ball. I can't thank you enough!!!

Crystal - I didn't contact you about the Secret Santa thing because I still plan on doing it! (unless I'm not going to be allowed?)
I posted here because I thought I might be able to find them a good home and work something out with ferret-knowledgable people. I don't want to dump them off on a shelter, or I would have done so. I don't want to give them up. I've always hated people who do this, and didn't believe their excuses or whatever bs they came up with. My husband accepted a job out of state and they can't come because we can't find a house that will rent to us with them. The town is on the border between AZ and CA so I don't know if bad press carried over or what (I don't do politics), all I know is that they're not liked there. If I could find a way around it, I would. If I could have them fostered for a year until we buy a house, I would. But I haven't been able to do either. If I'd have ever had ANY inkling whatsoever that we'd ever be moving into a house we didn't own, I never would have gotten them to begin with. There's nothing more I can say. Ya'll can jump all over me all you want, I understand how you feel, as I've always felt the same (and still do).

If you would like to still do it and receive something andsend something that is fine. I have no problem with that. I just would have liked to be contacted because I was left not knowing if you were still participating.
Good luck with the rehoming.

Thanks, Crystal.
I also should have mentioned that the adoption fee is negotiable/waivable if I KNOW they're going to a good ferret home, and if the cage goes with the ferrets, the price is also negotiable. I'm not interested in paying of vet bills or making money or anything - I just want them to go to a good home.

In most cases, I'd rather see that happen so that their shots can be updated and the diagnosis can be confirmed on Goliath and treatment can be started. If it is adreanal, I would much rather see him get the implant, it works much better than oral melatonin. Many of the oral melatonins also contain alcohol.

Since Goliath has adrenal disease, it might be best to place them in a ferret shelter that is very experienced with this if you can't find an owner that is experienced with Adrenal disease, to me most ferret shelters out there dedicated to mainly ferrets are actually very knowledgeable in this disease and how to treat it and spot potential owners ready for it. I've also used the melatonin implant and find it mimicks more like the natural release of melatonin than oral.

If you want to foster them for a year, I'm willing to do that. I did it for a military family a while back. Let me know. I do have a contrac that would need to be signed, and of course there will be a fee to board them, but it's an option we can look into.

That is a great option for those that can't keep their babies for a limited amount of time.

That'd be awesome - can you email me off-list to discuss boarding fee's and such? That's a double bonus - I get to keep my babies, and then my hubby can't tell me no more ferrets 'cause I'd still have mine!! You don't know how much you just brightened up my day! Well, after all this drama, it turns out I won't have to give Fender and Goliath up after all! YAY! My aunt here in town (she's more like a sis, only 21 months older than me) is going to keep them until I can come back and get them. I'm so happy (and wish I'd have thought to ask her sooner!). Anyhoo, just thought I'd update this thread. Thanks for all the ideas!

that was awesome of Connie to really try and help you out of this unfortunate bind. In the end, I'm really glad it worked out that they could stay in the family! you would miss them more than you realize esp with the change in life (moving).
