My cousin, for his 19th birthday, is going to be getting a ferret from the family. We've begun ordering the stuff for him already, beginning with a nice FN142 for him. He's started his career working full time, and lives with his father which has okayed the ferret already. He's wanted a ferret for quite some time now. I've been put in charge of making sure the ferret has everything, as well as finding a good ferret for him. So, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a ferret that needs a home. I was going to just buy a kit, but I'm not sure. I've heard having an adult for a first ferret is better than having a kit, and I'd also like to see a needy ferret finding a good home. They don't have any other animals, and won't, and there's no other children in the house, so it seems all the bases are covered. I would just go to a shelter, but the ferret is not for me. If you know of a needy ferret, let me know, and I'll check him/her out. All I ask is that he is potty trained, and not currently suffering of any ailments, like insulima, as this will be a first time ferret owner. Better to deal with insulima and pooping issues with a little more experience than my cousin has...

The fuzzy's for my cousin though. I'm not sure how the adoption would go then...

Why don't you all let him pick his ferret. I don't think it's a good idea to pick one out for him. Give him a certificate or something saying you will pay for one weather it's a adoption or purchase.

My family is pretty inexperienced with pets. The experience they have is wrong at best. They want me to chose the ferret for them, and train him for a few weeks before he gets him. I did choose a kit. I'm thinking that I'll talk to him about choosing a friend for his kit, hopefully from a nice shelter. The kits were all very sociable, so I think he'll be best with a friend...

Im a first time ferret owner too and I have to say I dont think a kit wouldve been best for me. I have two four year olds and I think they are just right.

Yeah, I got him a kit and an adult, and I think they ended up bonding with the adult more so.... The kit is a monster! They love them though.
