I got a call from a lady in Killeen, about 80 miles or so from me. Has a 6 year old ferret, diagnosed with lymphoma, and now 'doesn't have time for it' and wants me to find a new home for her. I explained how shelter life is not good for an older ferret, especially one that is sick with cancer. And of course finding someone willing to adopt a 6 year old with lymphoma is near impossible, which I explained to her as well. I even told her she may not survive long once she's surrendered, and she would be better of staying with her familiar people and surroundings, and when the time comes, she can take her to the vet and have her humanely PTS if she begins to suffer. I get the "I don't want this thing dying while it's with me, and I'm certainly not going to spend good money to have it killed' So I tell her fine, you can bring her to me. "Well, I'm not going to drive an hour to bring her to you, you'll have to come and get her." I'm picking the poor baby up on Sunday on my way home from Dallas. I'll be giving this woman an ear full before I drive off.

Once you get her, if you need a place for her to live out her days, I can make room for her. Poor baby.

I have 8, but if she's really in bad shape, I'll provide a home for her for the time she has left. At least she'll know someone cared for her when she goes. But that's up to Connie. If Connie feels she'll do fine in the shelter I'm good with that.

Awwwww that is so sweet Bob. I was thinking the same thing, but I am too far away to offer. People are just cruel sometimes.

Connie, what an awful woman. I'm glad you are saving the poor ferret. I wonder if when she gets older and sick if her family sends her away somewhere to pass so they are not inconvenienced. Bob, You are awesome!!!

Connie, I would not have been able to contain myself with that wicked woman! I can only imagine how she treats her own skin-kids. You be sure to give her 2-ears full when you pick up the sweet ferret. She shouldn't be allowed to own any pets!

Its funny, I hope my ferrets pass peacefully surrounded by love, knowing that me and my boyfriend love them very much and did everything possible in our reach for them to have a happy, good life..
Let it rip, let it fly Connie.. as soon as you get the sweetie of course.

Connie - my apologies for not mentioning how wonderful it is what you are doing for the little one in my original post. I cannot begin to express my sincere appreciation for all the great work the rescues do - most of which goes unnoticed by many with the exception of the saved fuzzies

Picked up the lymphoma girl , Diamond, on my way home from Dallas. I had to do everything I could not to slap this, this, well, whatever she is.
She was 20min late meeting me, so I had the back of my jeep open so the ferrets (several of the Rainbow girls from Millie's plus my Roy and Rider) could get some air. She drives up with I think 4 bratty kids in the back seat of a small truck. She hands me this pretty dark sable girl. Back molars are rotten, and you can not only feel, but SEE two huge tumors, one on each side of her neck. I put her in the carrier, and she signs the surrender form. Kids ask how much it is to 'buy' the ferrets in they see, and I said they aren't for sale. Woman tries to tell me how she was ripped off by the person she got the ferret from two years ago. Meanwhile the kids are trying to stick their fingers in the cages, and I tell them to stop since the girls are still a bit nippy. Some have just been spayed and are still hormonal.
This woman tries to go on and on about how it's really best for the ferret to find a new home, and I told her (again) that it won't find a home. I hear the crap about how busy she is, blah blah. She also forgot to bring me the meds the ferret is on, and doesn't know the name of it. Great. I told her do me and the rest of the animal rescues a favor - don't ever get another pet ever again. I was a total bitch to her.
This part is great - I was closing the back end of the car, opened the passenger door to put the crappy Walmart food she brought into the back seat. One of her brats sticks his fingers in Roy's cage, and Roy nailed him good. I didn't even ask if the kid was ok. I said 'told you not to stick your fingers in there", slammed the door, got in and drove off while the mom was checking out the kid's finger.

Oh but aren't we all supposed to feel bad for her situation and how hard it is on HER.....people never cease to amaze with the crap that flies out of their mouths.
Nice work Connie - I know you wanted to say more but I feel you said enough to get the point across even if it falls on deaf ears.

Gawd - I wish I didn't read this thread. I just don't understand how anyone can give up their pet so easily. Makes me think it was never taken care of properly from the start. So sad......

Connie, I'm so glad you saved that poor female ferret before it had another horrible night at that woman's house. Too bad Roy did not bite the woman along with the kid. What a terrible life lesson she is teaching her children. Hopefully the woman will take your advise and not get any more animals.
