There is someone adopting ferrets for cheap and then reselling them... They use the email princessjess42@hotmail.com and the girl's name is Jessica Moss I adopted a ferret from them a few weeks ago and then inquired about another one and realized it was the same person. The ferret I adopted they claimed was their last one and he needed a home that day because they were moving. They are trying to make a profit of of your ferrets. They are posting saying they need to go today! BEWARE
If you want anymore info on these people please feel free to email me.

I hope no one actually clicks on that junk. I have little faith in humanity though, now that I've recently discovered people are still falling for the pet/nigerian and international lottery scams...

yes and no I guess... it is stealing.. theyre selling ferrets that the old owners think are being kept at a good home, theyre reselling ferrets which is also techincally stealing from marshall farms.. But technically once the old owner gives them to the lady, they are her property and she can do as she wishes with them

Unfortunately, there are not good laws to protect animals, and as far as I know, it's even legal to pick up animals in the classifieds and sell them to labs. That's why pet owners need to be responsible when rehoming, and not take the first wasd of cash thrust into their hands. References, home checks, et cetera are the only justifiably remote way of checking up on these people. And even then, you never know...

My fav are the ads that say: I have a ferret I need to get rid of. I want her gone by tomorrow because I'm _______. Adoption fee $125; I paid $160 for her and $150 for her cage, so it's fair.
That points out three things there. 1. If you have to justify the price of your adoption fee, it's probably too high and you know it. and 2. Who cares how much you spent on the pet. That's your problem. You got to pick it out of the litter, mold its personality and watch it grow up. We're just cleaning up your mess. 3. The cash payout is way more important than the home they're going to.
Granted, I'm not perfect, but these ads kill me. They're particularly common on the Philly and Allentown CLs more so than the other PA ones. The other PA ones usually outright say ____ for sale. LoL. Least they're honest about how they just don't care... Just me ranting. Y'all see it out there.
Did your fuzzy find her furrever home yet?

I think the people who post on those are just interested in the money. I've never seen one where they wanted to check out the home where the fert would be going they just want the money and could care less what happens once the cash is in their hands.Pisses me off to no end

I guess I am the only one with a good story about CL. I got Dexter through CL, and the "price" was only 20. She asked for 25, but I only brought 20s and didn't have any change. Once she saw all the pictures of the living situation (cage, food, toys, Grendel) she said 20 would be fine. Heck, I still stay in touch with her on occasion to show her update photos.

I don't think it's illegal unless she signs a contract upon receiveing the ferrets saying that she will not resell or adopt them out without the previous owners permission or soemthing like that.

I posted wanted ads on Craigslist and Facebook, and I got a response which I'm pretty sure was from CL for Ava. A college student gave me her- and her Ferret Nation- for free. I guess that's a happy ending for me- although Ava's life wasn't easy before I picked her up. She was abandoned by her original owner and her roommate kept her at her bf's parent's house, which they wouldn't allow the ferret inside. Ava lived in a shed with dozens of stinkbugs. Good or bad story from CL? I guess I consider it good. ;D

Abby is still for adoption, which is okay with me there is no hurry. Their are some potential adopters but who knows, half of the people don't send their application back.

I have a good story about CL. I just recently received two ferrets from a lady on there. She was trying to re-home them and wanted $30 for them and their cage. When I got there I showed her pictures of the house and all the toys I had went and bought for them. I even brought a few with me to see if they would like them. She ended up giving them to me with the two story FN cage and another smaller cage to take them to the vet in. I couldn't have been happier. I am now the proud owner of Taz and Flower, my two fur babies.
Thanks for the warning about that Jessica person. I believe just recently I saw a post on the VA CL about her yorkies needing to find homes, with no price listed. When I emailed her about the price and asked her about the conditions she never replied back. It's a shame that the world is the way it is when it comes to animals.

It's a shame that humans would try to profit at the expense of another being period, but that's just our selfish ways I suppose. Hopefully someday these animals will have more rights. Ravenmother, I think it's great that the past owner was not trying to profit from you, and you are a good ferrent. Its a win-win story!

I got Gin and Tonic from craigslist. They came with a cage. FREE, I think we were their third home. We were first time ferret owners and we took a chance in a sense.

when ever i re-home anything i give a reasonable adoption fee and once the pass the application and i meet them i revoke it. I see no need for a good home to spend money that could be used for food on the animal. I do understand why rescues do it... medical, food, shelter.

That's a good idea. What I think I would do in that situation is once they pass, make them spend that adoption fee on the ferrets with a receipt as proof. I've seen people do that with cats before on CL.
