I am so very grateful to the many folks-posters and non-posters alike, who stepped up. Whether you phoned, or PM'ed me, or offered your services. It is heart warming on such a terrible day.

One last question - I know Paypal is great & convenient, but the fees can eat into what Keith acutally receives... Is it better for them to use Paypal & get it now even with the fees, or for us to mail the check so they get the entire amount? Or we can mail cash wherever... Let me know what would be best. THANK YOU!

Yogi, any of those are fine. except its actually against the law to send cash in the mail... so a check or money order would be better.

If anyone is OK with sending checks you can probably mail it to them, I'm sure the PO will be holding their mail. You could send them to me (PM me for address), but make check out to Father Nature's Ferret Rescue. Thanks, Matt

Reading this broke my heart this morning. I know first hand how devastating fires are, my family lost our family business in December due to an electrical fire. I do hope they had good insurance, I know that is not something you want to think about now but it is very important. We had no insurance on the historic building that burned to the ground.
I wish I was closer so I could do more to help. I told my sig other about this and he told me to donate as much as we can after we pay bills tomorrow. He was heartbroken as well. I have this posted on the KS Craigslist and have sent out a mass email to the school district I work for. I will do as much as I can to help.

Oh my gosh!! I bawled threw this thread. I just raied some money today to go to a rescue (I already had one in mind), but I will be donating it to FN. I'm talking to my mom and we should be able to have some shirts and pants for both Keith and Evelyn. I will also be trying to collect other supplies and money. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

My heart is just aching for Keith and Evelyn. I don't even know what to say. My thoughts are with them....and with all of the fuzzies. I had tears in my eyes when I read this post this morning. Everyone here sort of feels like extended family, as we all have one wonderful thing in common.
Matt, please check your PM's. I have a question for you.

Ok, I emailed my church leader and all my friends, so I'm hoping I'll be able to collect quite a few things.

I am sooooo incredibly sad - this was such a tough thread to read.
Did Keith lose his special buddy - the one that would sleep on him? When my daughter & I visited there, Evelyn said Keith would be devestated if he lost that ferret. I just can't believe all those little guys are gone - I'm glad we were able to hold a few and give them some loving. And I wish I had gotten to say hello to Little Dude - he was asleep.
I'll send a donation but I'm sure I have things I can send as well.
Kristi or Matt - when will you be going up there again?

Unfortunately, I think so. That might have been Yogi, which was one (of 2) that Keith had me set aside for "personal" creamation. LD was the other. The rest will go as a group. They were ALL their babies, but it wasn't possible to single them all out. I DID recognize MANY of them, and spoke to them by name (when I knew them) but it was VERY hard. So I think you are refering to Yogi. I will be heading up tomorrow... between 10 - Noon. Later, Matt

Ok, I dont want to break the TOS, but the site is pretty much ready... I have a few things to tweak, but Im exhausted and the html is looking the same. Someone please let me know if its ok to post it here. For those of you who would like to advertise your site, ALL the proceeds go right to their (FN's) paypal. Until we can get it set up differently, its all it will take at this moment. If you want the link before I get the ok, I guess you can pm me. I will be checking back periodically and I have plans on going to see Keith and Evelyn tomorrow to drop off a few things, so if I dont answer RIGHT away, that is why, but dont worry, I will.

Awww.... I'm sorry to hear that - I think you're right - I think it was Yogi. I'll have to ask my daughter - I was too busy cuddling a ferret at the time - I think it was Oscar?
Please let them know they are both in our thoughts and prayers. I hope they feel the love that surrounds them both.

This is what the local Fire Department has on its website regarding the fire. Sun. Jan 25th 2009 At 03:57 hours, the WRFD was dispatched to the area of 400 Center Street for a report of smoke coming from a house. Upon arrival, WRFD Chiefs found a two and half story frame house located at 33 5th Street with fire in the basement, extending up the walls to the attic. An aggressive interior attack was mounted in the basement and all floors, however heavy fire in the structure forced a switch to a defensive operation. Aerial device master streams from Wood-Ridge Truck 904, Hasbrouck Heights Ladder 617 and Lyndhurst Truck 1 knocked down the heavy fire in the house. Firefighting efforts were hampered by the 12 degree temperature. Second alarm companies responded to the scene and third alarm companies covered the WR firehouse. One Wood-Ridge firefighter suffered a back injury after slipping on the ice. The fire remains under investigation. and here is a link to another article where they mention "Pet Ferrets". i dont think they realized at the time that this was a rescue, but i am sure in the days to come that will change. www.1strespondernews.com/webpages/news/DisplayNews.aspx?PT=state&state=NJ&ID=fc231129-d7c2-42c3-938a-1681462bc3db

This letter was written to the President of S.O.S, and should be on FML shortly... This morning I received a heart-breaking call from Rose Bruce of Angie's Song Ferret Rescue. Father Nature's Ferret Rescue in New Jersey has burned and 25 ferrets have died. Only 3 ferrets remain. As you know, Support Our Shelters only helps ferrets with the funds in our account. However, we can still make an appeal for this ferret rescue. You can send donations directly to them through Rose. If you wish to support the remaining ferrets and if you prefer to receive a tax deduction for your donations, you can give through Support Our Shelters. Information for donating both ways is provided below. Here is the email I received from Rose this evening. She gave me permission to post any part of it to the FML. We began Angie's Song Ferret Sanctuary in July 2007. The goal was to get as many "un-adoptables" as we were able to handle, and provide them with a happy life. Not so far along the journey, I met Keith Krysz, of Father Nature's Ferret Rescue. We spoke via telephone for quite a while, and once Keith saw that I was an experienced ferret handler (10 yrs of biters), he asked me if I would be interested in taking in an elderly adrenal girl. Naturally, I said yes. Nina was our 1st resident, and is STILL with us today... It did not take long for our relationship with Keith & Evelyn to grow and flourish into a close partnership. We have 29 residents at Angie's Song, ALL unadoptable, due to illness, age or social issues, and the majority of our "crew" are from Father Nature's. They will stay here with me forever. This morning, I got a call from Keith. It was a phone call telling me that his house was on fire, and everything was lost...including his beloved ferrets. The cries that I heard from this man were not about any of his possessions, they were about his "babies". The ones he comes home to every night, the ones that he races to the vet for, and the ones he has spent hundreds of hours nursing back to health after abuse & neglect, the ones that he hold symposiums in Petco for... They are indeed his babies. Today, all of that ended with a tragic fire. 25 fuzzies that lost their lives today. 25 fuzzies that were beautiful and charming, and just waiting for someone to love them. 25 ferrets who never had a forever home. The entire house is gone, although 3 ferrets have survived. One of the survivors is Charger, who is with me, as he is a special needs guy, and the other 2 have been placed with another dear friend. For the last 2 1/2 years, Father Nature's has placed over 675 unwanted ferrets in loving homes. 25 innocent little lives were lost today, for reasons I cannot fathom. All of us with ties to the rescue are broken. Yet, we will overcome, and we will survive. There is FAR too much to be done in the Tri-State area, and we cannot allow anything to stop us from achieving our goal, which is to rescue as many as we can. I am asking each & every one of you for a small donation for Father Nature's. I know first hand how tough things are, yet any amount will help-every single dollar counts to re-build our shelter, and begin to fight the good fight again. I thank you in advance, and hope you will have a hand in helping us re-build our dream. All donations will go toward the new shelter. Please visit Father Nature's Website:www.fathernaturesferretrescue.com Donations can be sent via Pay Pal, or checks can be made payable to: Father Nature's Ferret Rescue c/o Angie's Song Ferret Sanctuary 2104 Oxford Place Merrick, NY 11566 Ph. 516.705.5685 Sincerely, Rose Bruce, Director Angie's Song Ferret Sanctuary www.angieferret.com We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty. -Mother Theresa

I had to read this thread 3 times before I could actually believe it. Then I spent a good 10 minutes crying. How such an awful thing could happen to such wonderful people is beyond my comprehension. To all those involved, you are in my thoughts and prayers. There are no words to make any of this better but I sincerely hope that we can band together and once more help these amazing people.

I have resorted to Xanax. Tomorrow begins another day.
If anyone is fluent in sales, and can volunteer an hour or two-please PM me. There are a quite a few phone calls to be made since it will be Monday. I can sell ice in Alaska if I need to-but I think I may need some help-there are just too many calls to make to find out proper contacts, and then to ask for funding and/or product.
I apologize as I am asking quite a bit of you all. Today has struck a chord in me, and I fear I will never be the same.
Again, All of you that have pitched in-whatever it may be-a monetary donation, an offer of clothing, a phone call or a kind word-Thank You.
