As many of you all know we are operating at a very limited capacity. We only take emergencies and fuzzies that are pre-placed. We had arranged for 2 very young fuzzies to come here yesterday to be placed last night. The surrendering lady stated that she had 2 very young ferrets that were her mothers and mom had passed away. We already have an older fuzzy here with her cagemate awaiting adrenal surgery once the funds are raised and they already have a foster home after she recoops. Well, this B&$%* pulled a fast one on us. She said she had no funds for shots due to Moms expenses but we agreed, as always, to take them. She showed up yesterday with the 2 young fuzzies covered in filth. The cages were so bad that I went to the house construction and threw them in the dumpster there. The worst part of this is, in another cage was a 7 to 8 year old male covered in urine and feces with a few handfuls of crappy dog food scattered amongst the feces in the bottom of the cage. Mother Nature went ballistic and we chased them from our apartment. Upon further investigation and baths the 2 younger are in OK shape. The male is bald from the neck down and is unable to walk. We thought we would loose him last night until, after 2 huge bowls of our duck soup and some dextrose 50% and IV fluids he showed signs of wanting to live. We spent the whole night holding and talking to him gently and he finally fell asleep around 4am. We have him set up to see the Vet at 4 today for x-rays and blood work. This woman never even mentioned this poor little old man and she has put us in a real bind. Even through all the horrible things I have seen since we opened this takes the blue ribbon. I told this woman the first time we spoke the situation we were in but she cried that no other rescues would take them. I was so happy when I found an experienced ferret friend that would take the 2. Now we will have Buddy as a permanent resident and I believe this woman knew after reading our web sight, that we would NEVER turn him away. He is a very sweet boy and the suffering he has gone through is criminal. I just fed him again and he looked up at me as if to say thank you for helping me. I rubbed him gently around the areas he can't reach with his paralysis and he sounded as if he was purring. You can tell by the way he has figured out to potty, that this has gone on for a very long time. We will use the funds we saved so far for Daiseys' surgery to cover Buddy's costs tonight and I am sure it will all work out as the Vet will let us carry a balance for a while. Please say a prayer for Buddy and I will hopefully get some pics posted soon of him. Father Nature

Some people can be so cruel!! I do not understand how someone in good frame of mind can do this to a innocent, helpless animal. Poor Guy, my prayers are with him, I hope he feels better soon. I'm so glad he made his way to loving people like you!!

As expected the Vet confirmed Buddy's issues are mainly caused by an injury. If it was addressed when it happened he would have made a full recovery. The adrenal and insulinoma could have been managed with surgery and meds but he is so very debilitated from the spinal injury it is not possible even in the future. Buddy is now another victim of mans inhumanity. We had x-rays, blood work and a full exam and the vet says he is doomed to permanent paralysis. His one hind leg is so wasted that it caused hyper extension. We will try warm baths and soft rehab to try and get it to articulate at the joints. If it works we may be able to get him into a wheelie and improve his quality of life. We have to keep a close eye on his digestion due to the lack of mobility which can cause gastric problems. He has learned to potty by laying on his side and slithering away as he goes. He still gets very messy and soils his bedding and himself. This is the same issues we had with Little Dude in the beginning and I guess this is what would have developed as LD aged. Buddy has found a permanent home with us and he will get all the love he should have had during his life. I will do updates on Buddy as time goes on. Please say a prayer for him. Keith

That is REALLY sick, I just can NOT comprehend how someone can let anything suffer like that -- but I am really glad about one thing, that now he will know love and warmpth, be treated properly and live his life out happier then he probably ever did. Thank you for saving that precious baby and all the others you have as well.

idont know why your website is still up and that you are still takeing in ferrets when it could cost you your own living situation. people would stop coming to you if you didnt go out looking for them. you guys are barely getting by, yet you keep doing this. and i have noticed the only time you really post anymore is for prayers for this one or that one..... always hinting that you dont have the funds for this or that.
werent you told you could only have 3 ferrets in that rental? what are you up to now?
you really shouldnt be doing any rescuing unless its help for another rescue group.
here is a prayer..... I hope and Pray that the fuzzies in your care, get the care they need and hopefully you are not taking them to the vets you were using before.
and while we are asking for prayers, how about one for my father who has just a few months to live before lung cancer kills him. (normally i would not ever ask others for prayers, but it seemed fitting)

Personally, I think Fizzles comment was rude and uncalled for. I don't think you should be commenting on anyones financial situation to begin with, you don't know what they do and do not have. If Father Natures thinks he is able to care for these guys, then he can. He is a grown man and I'm sure he is capable of making his own financial and life decisions. I'm with him when it comes to saving these guys, if someone came to my door with this little guy I'd help him out in anyway I can.
As for the prayers, mine will always be there for Father Nature and all of his fuzzies in need. For your father also, I wish the best for him.

I think what you are doing is what you were intended to do, Keith. I think someone upstairs molded you to save these guys, because you are just so good at it. You and Evelyn are saints and I support you in all you do. Unfortunately, a rescue, by nature, is always going to have issues with too many bills and not enough funds to complete all of the transactions, but they still keep going because the animals need them and, well, the rescuerers need to keep helping the animals.

I will answer to the highlighted portions of Steph's post. Sorry if folks take it bad, but it is Honest. - Fizzle myself and others DO know... Her coments refering to funds and the "mentioning of them" are justified. - So were we... Until MANY sircumstances arose that compromised ALOT of the "big picture" of FNFR. Our concerns imediately focused on K & E's well being when things got so bad. - So are ours... We pray for them to get things in order so they can continue in their mission, which is ABSOLUTELY a great thing. But if they overlook certain issues, this can, and possibly already has, hinder or completely ruin what has been. Fizzle, Myself, and others have worked VERY closely with them, close enough to go above and beyond in our help and support, but when things were not being delt with, we told them how we felt and did what we had to do, or not do. For the record... I speak for myself and the "select few" with their permission to do so in including them in my statements.Again... I'm sorry if anyone is offended by my post, but it is what it is, and the "picture" is MUCH bigger than some will or can know. I repeat... Our prayers ARE with them... To get BETTER... So they can get back EVERYTHING!!! Sincerely, Matt K.

I have to agree, Matt. I'm positive that fizzle meant no harm in her post... I know, though, if I were in Keith and Evelyn's shoes and that ferret ended up on my doorstep, there's no way I would have let that lady leave with him...

I just think that some things that are personal (such as money situations, etc.) should be kept private. I do argee with Matt in some respects, but I'm with TD69P also, I could never turn away any animal in need, regardless of species, etc.

OK THIS IS MOTHER NATURE SPEAKING. I THOUGHT THIS BOARD WAS FOR FERRETS CONCERNS AND QUESTIONS THAT PEOPLE HAD ABOUT THEIR BABIES ? NOT TO COME ON AND MUD SLING OR PUT ANYBODY DOWN OR WHATEVER..THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR THIS AND IF YOU PEOPLE HAD SUCH GREAT CONCERNS ABOUT WHAT WE ARE OR ARE NOT DOING WHY DONT YOU COME AND SEE AND ASK FOR YOURSELVES? YOU ACT AS THOUGH WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WITH PROBLEMS...TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT YOURSELVES ,I SAY ITS THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK..AND LAST REALIZE THAT ITS CRAP LIKE THIS THAT MAKES ALOT OF RESCUES CLOSE THERE DOORS,IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT? ENOUGH OF THIS PLEASE AND AS FOR YOU FIZZLE I WILL SAY A PRAYER FOR YOUR FATHER..

What a sweet baby... I can't believe someone would do such a thing to him... I like, though, how he still has the will to play, even through all he's been through... you can tell he's so curious!

this thread is not about the personal situation of keith & evelyn. anyone with any concerns in that regard should be contacting them directly.
what this thread is about is 2 little ones that needed a new home and 1 extra little one - sick to boot - that was brought along with those that a placement had been arranged for.
even if this extra one hadn't been ill, he still wouldn't have been turned away - especially after seeing the conditions they were being kept in upon arrival.
no one, shelter op or just a regular owner, would turn these ill-kept little ones away. most especially the one that is sick! money is not an issue in situations like this - getting the animals out of a bad situation/imminent danger is what is of the utmost importance.
is it always the wise thing to do, financially? no, sometimes it's not (even without the situation/tragedy that's involved here). is it always the wise thing to do for the sake of the ferrets well-being? most definitely!!
rescue operators take in animals that need rescued - regardless of whether it's financially feasible or not at that exact moment in time or not. and they take them, even when it's not financially and/or space-wise feasible, when it's a do-or-die situation for the animal.
i hope the 2 that had a placement lined up adjust quickly and start to thrive. i know that this old man will spend his last days being cared for properly - whether it's with keith & evelyn or at a foster home.

All I have to say is I am so glad those three found a better situation than what they were previously in. I hope they can thrive in their new situation.
And fizzle, prayers to your father.
Geez, I hope 2010 is a better year for everyone.

Keith and Evelyn, as a moderator on the forum and a longtime supporter of your cause. I do have to agree that there has been some confusion about your rescue work ever since Mother Nature posted your doors were closed until your Health concerns as well as her's we're taking care of first. Only then to have a post not soon after about your continued rescue efforts.
I personally believe that yours & Evelyn's overall health and well being comes first. There are other rescue and organizations out there to help when a fuzzy turns up at your door, perhaps the very same one's that once came to you for help and guidence.
My wish would be for you and Evelyn's to put yourself's first, so that when that happens (or maybe it has?) you have 100% to give of yourselves for the fuzzies. I just think if it hasn't happened, your are cheating yourself and the fuzzies, as you are cutting your life short by not putting yourselves first.
My hope would be that you continue to be a part of TLH as you have a wealth of information and knowledge to share with others and you are a part of TLH Family.

Fizzle, I am very sorry about your father. My prayers are with you and your family.
As far as the poor ferrets. I am glad that they are free from the horrible living conditions they had and I hope they all get the care they need and deserve.
