Hey everyone I know someone who states they have a ferret they want to get rid of. This is not one of my ferrets but someone i know in the Emergency department. He is a single ferret, I don't know how he does with other ferrets but I do know she let him free roam most of his life. I am sure he isnt on the best diet ever. She states that her reasons for getting rid of him is that her new place which she is moving into supposedly soon will not accept him and she just "dosen't want him anymore" She told me today at work that she would be willing to give up the cage and everything with him if someone wants him.
We are located in Central PA (Williamsport area) as far as I know she is not requesting and adoption fee so this may be the change to rescue a ferret if you are in the area and interested or possibly we could shuttle the guy to someone who is interested.
I obviously am at my limit so I can't take him. If you are interested let me know you can reply here or PM me and I can get you in touch with the owner.

Here is some more info on this ferret incase anyone would want to know more. It appears she believes he is almost 2 years old. She thinks his birthday is May, 11 2008. And below are some pictures I grabbed off her ferretbook on facebook. I am going to the fandango so if you are interested in him and will be there let me know and we can arrange something. I am pretty sure he is probably not UTD on shot nor ADV tested so obviously he wont be allowed in the show hall and I would need to keep him separate from my kids but we have some spare cages where need be we may be able to hold him until the show if someone is interested and unable to get him before hand. (Or if you are interested and would like to pick him up at the show and would like me to make sure everything is UTD on him I would be willing to make sure he has all of his shots and ADV done prior to the show if you pay pal me the funds) Hopefully someone out here reading is interested cuz im not so sure what she is going to do with him if not. Oh and she is calling him Rosko

I wish I could help, but I can't afford him right now. I hope he finds an amazing home. I'll keep my eyes open for people looking for a ferret.

Do you know were gilbertsville is Jenn?? It is saying its about an hour north of you on mapquest. There will be a ferret show there. I will be going to that and would be more then happy to bring him with for pick up? Or maybe someone who is going to the show is closer to your area and may be able to shuttle him further south?

The prob is, I don't have a car. If someone going there is willing to bring him anywhere in Philadelphia, we'd definitely love to give him a home. My days off work right now are limited, but I'll do my best to see if someone can give me a ride up. When is the show ?

I know you are only looking for serious answers but I couldn't help myself. I work at UPS and one of the destinations I work with is PHL (Philly). I just imagined me, sneaking him in and putting him in a box with holes and shipping him to her. We ship live animals all the time.
Good-Luck. If my car would make it, I would be happy to do the delivery. I am no where near the area (Louisville), but if only my car wasn't a piece of ferret poo I would drive anyway just for him to have a home.

I just saw a video of a ferret that someone tried to overnight to Puerto Rico ! No holes in the box or nothing.. Oh, and no luck on finding a ride yet.

Here is a picture of the guy. hes a big boy, and has all of his hair, appears in generally good health, You could tell she was attempting to take care of him just wasn't very educated or had enough time. He is eating meow mix Jenn and I have a huge bag of it hes all settled into the cage I got from Tiffany and is eating his food. Can't wait to give him to his new home.

has he been tested for adv?
that is a problem if he hasn't. you can't say with certainty that yours haven't been exposed if this one hasn't been tested and found negative.

He's being kept in a different level of the house and nothing he is in contact with is near my ferrets and hand sanatizing happens prior to touching my guys. For the car ride he will be kept behind the back seat and my kids in the front so they never see each other or come in contact.

well, it's a little late for purposes of this situation. still, so everyone can learn:
www.ferretadv.com/faq.html
keeping the ferret in another room is just not enough to assure safety.
the fact that you don't know if this ferret is adv negative means you really shouldn't go to the show. you do have to sign a form declaring that your ferrets haven't been exposed to the virus...and you don't know if that's true or not.
adv is a very, very, very serious thing and not knowing if this ferret is negative or not puts your ferrets at risk...and bringing your ferrets to the show puts all the ferrets at the show at risk. they can have it and not have any symptoms at all - and that's why it's required that they be tested and proof of negative testing and that form signed be presented when you enter the show hall.

THis virus is NOT airborne! It has NOT HAd saliva urine or fecal exposure. To the best of my knowledge everyone is negative. Ferrets have to be tested up to 6 months before the show and testing does not mean they don't have it!! Someone could touch another ferret then touch yours thus giving ur ferret adv and u don't know it! I can't vaccinate my ferret for CDv either does that mean I should help rescue another ferret or bring mine to the show cuz she could spread it? There is a risk taking ur ferret to a show. I did everything in my power to keep my kids and everyone elses kids safe at this show while still rescuing a ferret from certain death. So really what's the worst of the evils?

i talked to a few people today about this and was told there's new research that indicates that it takes repeated exposure to bodily fluids for the virus to be transmitted...so, no, there wasn't any real danger since you did quarrantine the little guy. i was working with old/outdated info...and i'm just plain anal about this particular disease...so, went overboard.
i meant to say something to you today when i found that out - things just got so hectic that i forgot!! i'm really sorry i didn't talk to you about it and clear things up about my post from yesterday!!

He is doing great. You weren't lying about him being energetic! He's a spaz! And we love it! LOL. He does have a little cage rage, but only if he sees us he will dig and bite at the bars. Other than that he has nice manners, goes in the litterbox. He's doing well with the beginning of the food switch, he's eating the little bit of our mix in his bowl as well as the meow mix. I clipped his nails with no problem at all. Your mom was calling him Spike I wanted to stick with that, but the bf said nope! It was his turn to pick a name anyway... so we agreed on Logan. (from Xmen/wolverine)

Thats a great name for the little spaz!!! My mom told me about her nick name for him after she dropped him off glad he is fitting in at your home. His cage rage may go away with time, He was never put in a cage at his old house from what she used to tell me.
