Father Natures has officially reopened and the fuzzies are flying in as expected. Of course we have already received our share of sick fuzzies needing adrenal surgery and we are working on a large order of the DES implants to cover the adrenals that are not surgical candidates. With the different rooms we are utilizing in the new house we were wondering if anyone on TLH is aware of a multichannel baby monitor. We need something to network 4 rooms so we can hear whats going on especially with the spring hormones rising. Manny of our normally calm boys are feeling their oats and starting fights. We are quickly running out of room so hopefully adoptions will start to increase. It's hard to believe all the very young fuzzies coming in. The last 3 boys to arrive are 4, 6, and 7 months along with a 7 week old little girl. We named her Pepper and she is the spitting image of our Bindi Sue that was lost in the fire. It is still hard sometimes when the sadness comes over us like a wave but we know to go and grab a fuzzy and squeeze till it passes LOL. Any of our local friends that would like to come for a visit, just give us a ring 201-438-8677 so we are sure we are here. Well it's off to the Vets for some shots and check ups. AND SO IT BEGINS...AGAIN. Keith and Evelyn

Congratulations and GL!
As for baby monitors- most only have 2 receivers. Not sure if you can buy 2 sets and work them off the same base or not. I only know of one that has 4 receivers with it and it was a Safety First brand. It was also close to $600.

As far as the multiple monitor idea goes, the only way I can think of, would be to use a couple of sets of those PMR radios. We have some here, that have a VOX driven baby monitor mode, so they only transmit when there is noise. Something like these www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=261157&C=Froogle&U=261157&T=ModuleTry doing a search in Google for "PMR Baby Monitor" to see what is available to you guys. The main problem is most proper baby monitors transmit continually, so you would be asking for multiple transmitters, and only one receiver, which would probably result in the transmitters all swamping each other, and you getting no usable signal at all. There is another way, which is to look into a cheap second hand telephone system, with a hotel package, as they quite often have a way to use the phones as a baby monitor. Having said that, I have no idea how it actually works though. Also I have no idea what something like that would cost out there.

congrats on being open again!!!! that's really wonderful news on a day where some happy news was sorely needed!!
as for monitoring things, you need a centralized system that's run from a computer - multiple cameras and microphones that can be controlled (rotated and zoomed in/out as needed) from the central station.
you could even set it up to stream onto your website - what better way to advertize the ones who are up for adoption? still pics are wonderful, yes...action shots will beat out the still pics every time, tho!!

Congrats on reopening!
Have you thought about maybe a video monitoring system? I know it would be a little more expensive, but you could get cams that hook into computers and just keep a computer for monitoring the kids. Just an idea.

OR, just put in a intercom system and tape down all the buttons.

OR, just put in a intercom system and tape down all the buttons. That was what I was saying, it would not work, as they would all interfere with each other... DOH

Besides a video monitoring system, I think the easiest thing to do would be to buy several baby monitors (enough transmitters and receivers for each room) and label them. That way when goes off all you have to do is look at the label then book it to that room.

Krissy, that second link doesnt work.
But those look pretty darn awesome! Thats along the lines of what I was thinking of - only much more handy cause its a hand held monitor instead of on the computer.

I checked the intercom idea but with one button pressed it cancels out the other. Thanks for the effort though. The best so far seems to be Krissys links or a computer based multi camera system. Even those get price when audio is added. Will two of the same monitor sets work together does anyone know?Just had two more baby girls come in, 11 and 13 weeks old. Still need to name them and get their first shots done. Petco sadly still has some employees telling customers that their ferrets are set for life with shots when they are purchased. I sent an email to our area rep to see if she will let us post something in the local stores about shots required and when. Keith

you should be able to set something up using webcams - they provide visual and audio if they've got a mic attached. one per room placed somewhere that, when rotated, you can view all the cages in the room. or placed stationary with all cages in view and then just do a zoom-in. with wireless connections, you wouldn't even need to run cables.

That was my original thought, but they can get pretty expensive for just a single unit (cheapest I've been able to find is about $70). And I dont think you can run more than one webcam on a computer at a time with out a specific program made to do that - which will probably cost a bundle on its own.

Congratulations! I heard the new house is absolutely beautiful. Is there any chance you will be taking in boarders? I'm planning a trip in August and no one in their right mind will watch Axel for me.
