I have three ferrets saved before posting on CL. One came from my vets office, the lady who worked there remembered me from bringing in kits. (One of my babies I got from a pet co he was so young he had all his milk teeth and couldn't eat the hard food, so i bought him and hand raised him. I took him first to the vets and he called in the other techs to show them what a young ferret looked like. ) and she called me reguarding one that a friend of hers had, and she looked my name up on the computer, saying he was up to date on his shots. and he was free or they would have to put him on craigs list. but she was hoping i would take him because she knew I would take care of him. (this is how I got toph)
Similar I was called by a previouse co worker who had two ferrets they saved from their uncle who didn't know how to care for them at all. So after a few bouts of earmite treatment they came to live with me. but similarly their uncle had gotten tired of them and wanted to sell them on CL. They talked him in to giving the ferrets to me.
There are some gold. Some genuine people who are hoping to find a good home if they can not care for their fuzzies. There are alot of jerks too. I try to only rescue or adopt shelter kids. When you consider how much many of these shelters have put in to the ferret before it ever goes home with you... the adoption fee's are so small I wonder how they ever keep their heads above water.
(I worked for one that amusingly was funded by the fact they raised champion dairy goats)
