I'm hoping to get opinions from you all on the topic of "rehoming" fees fo ferrets on Craigslist. On the Colorado Springs and Denver list (anyway), it seems to me that the rehoming fees are awfully high, even cage and accessories are included.
I've considered getting another ferret off of here, but are rehoming fees $175-$375 reasonable even if they do include a cage and accessories? If you truly want a good home for the sharks, why so high?
Or perhaps getting ferrets off of here isn't even a good idea. I don't know. Any thoughts?

Saibellemay, I adopted my last two from ads on Craigslist, Colo Sprgs. Yes, I agree that $175 up is asking alot! rehoming fees are crazy sometimes. 3 wks ago, I paid $60, he was born Oct 06 --it included cage, toys, food, litter. last Fri, I adopted a 13 wk male, w/nice cage, toys, food, litterbox, even harness & clothes. that one was *free*. yep, she had posted $60, and I was first in line to see him. she felt I was a good home, she said "You can just take him & promise to send pics"

to me a "rehoming" fee of a ferret shouldn't exceed the cost of adopting a ferret in your area. Here it is $50, anything more then that isn't a rehoming fee. Unless the ferret comes with supplies. Depending on what supplies are offered is how much more I would spend.
I have seen numerous listings for ferrets with rehoming fees of 200+ becuase the person wants to get what they put in. But I am sorry thats not how it works.
I got my first two, with a superpet cage, litter box, some hammocks, and food for **FREE** on craigs. I ended up selling the cage for 50 bucks back on craigs. So I got two WONDERFUL ferrets and made 50 bucks!

the problem with many of the rehoming fees is that people use that to get past the 'you can't sell your pet on craigslist' rule. They want to get what they paid for the pet, and use the wording 'rehoming' to sell their pets. I got Yuki for 160, he came with his cage, hammok, a full containor of food, half a bag of litter, and some toys, and I got Kylee for free. I even think his price was a stretch but the alternative to him getting adopted was him being taken away and possibly put to sleep. The big cage I got for free. I don't think people should charge outragious rehoming fees for their pets. I mean, I understand something to help keep them from being snake food, but the reason I wanted to adopt an older ferret from craigs list rather than going to the pet store was because I was hoping for a cheaper price so that I could spend my money buying things for them rather than buying them. if the fees are out ragious(since craigs list DOES state that they need to be reasonable) I will sometimes flag them.

I have adopted 2 from craigslist. But each time i discuss with someone adopting I ask if they would consider selling the cage and supplies seperate. Generally it is a yes and they have given me the ferrets. Or I would pay then sell the cage and donate the supplies. You could make your money back that way. Then the ferrets have a great home and you are not out of pocket.

It really depends-I wouldn't have a huge issue paying $150-200 for a ferret that has been ADV tested, and had shots for the year already.

I just adopted out 2 of my California rescues. Since I drive to Cali to get them, pay for the vet and vaccines then care for them until they are re-homed I charge a small fee. I let a baby boy go with cage and no shots yet for 80. Then I re-homed a female with shots micro ship and no cage for 60. Helps with gas on the drive. But I am reasonable I think I dont mind adjusting the price at all.

I got my female ferret off there and she's great. On Craigslist they're not allowed to sell animals, though they do anyways by charging an outragous rehoming fee. If you get the cage and a bunch of supplies along with the fuzzy then the rehoming fee you posted doesn't seem unreasonable. But if not, then they are trying to make some sort of profit.

I got Baby, cage, and supplies on CL for free.I had to drive 2 hours to get him.It was worth it. I talked to a man that said if you talk to the people who just cannot keep the ferret they have in their care and tell them you would like to use the fee to pay for the vet cost for the test and for shots they are willing to do that.It never hurts to ask!Send them pictures of your current set up after your first email reply.Let them read your TLH posts.A little trust goes a long way!

We got Fitz and Fifi and cage free from CL and hopefully picking up Mr. Freddy this weekend with cage(3 story) and all his goodies for $75. That sounds like a good price to me and he's sooooooo cute. Does that sound good?

Does that sound good? yes, but i'd ask is hes UTD on vaccines & ADV -, with papers or a vet to contact. It is soooo hard for me to not reply to these. there have been 2 free ones near me, theres a male with a large cage and lots of stuff for $100, there was a baby boy for $125 with cage..etc. I know I don't need a fourth, especially since we foster dogs too. I just stop and remember how much a vet visit + set of distemper vaccines + ADV testing costs..

That is crazy. I am in Orlando and the average "rehoming" or "adoption" fee is about $40-$50 per ferret. I adopted my little men from a lady on craigslist and I pad $100 for the both of them. People asking for $175+ should be flagged and removed bc that is a violation of terms

and to add to my previous reply...my guys did not come up to date on shots...so after paying for vet and shots you end up paying a lot anyways. id say if they want $100 or more per ferret...they better have their shots and they better have papers

yea...and of course the day after I adopted mine, a lady posted saying she has 2 young ones that she has to rehome and is only asking $50 for both. Of course Id love them...but my bf would kill me lol. If I had a never ending supply of $$ i could adopt their little furry behinds all day long

It all depends on if the person wants the money or wants to find them a good home. There was an older adrenal ferret in Houston for 25 and his cage was an extra 50. Wellll I talked my husband into driving 6 hours to get him. Yes I know how much the surgery costs and how much the monthly luprine shots cost been through it before. Any way got down there the guy said here is all his stuff if you are dedicated enough to drive 6 hours I'm not going to charge anything. Now Rat was 7 yrs old. He didn't make it he had been with the same person for 5 of his 7 years and just couldn't adjust. That was in Jan. A couple of weeks ago I got Emma and Rico off of CL from a great couple that just didn't think they had the time to spend with them that they deserved. They were free but Lance was VERY picky about who they went to.
The next day we got Pandora and Azreal from a really bad situation, there the woman only cared about the money and not the quality of home the ferrets were getting. It just comes down to what kind of people you are dealing with.

I adopted my ferret in craigslist for $150. Its expensive but he came with alot of stuff. he came with 3 level cage big enough for 4, a bunch of toys, some litter and leftover foods, leash, carrying bag, litter pan basically everything they had. I think it wasnt that much considering the amount of stuff i got. Im adopting an albino ferret at a local shelter for $50 with no cage or accessories. Im excited! he comes here tommorow!

Sometimes if you just talk to them you can get the ferret(s) and things for free! You just have to set their minds at ease knowing that you will take good care of the ferret(s).
