Are you from the Reading area? If so, often Berks County Animal Rescue League has ferrets. They don't seem to know a lot about ferrets, so I like to see them get out of there quickly. They do their best though. I believe the adoption fee is $25, last I checked.

There is no such thing as a free pet.
You are looking at several hundred dollars in a proper cage and supplies - the best food for them that's going to reduce chances of long term issues later on is going to be more expensive. You're also looking at a fair amount in vet bills to make sure the pet is healthy and has all the required shots (and yes, ferrets are often required to have shots).
Then you're looking at all the upkeep expenses, which with a ferret... only get more and more expensive as time goes on. An old ferret is an expensive ferret.
Hope you're prepared for that.
