Awwww...he is quite a looker? It is so very amazing and wonderful that he now has a chance at a wonderful, fun life. I shudder when i think of what would have happened to that handsome little man. Congrats on his current progress and I hope it continues for many years to come.

Morning Little Dude Fans. Father Nature here. LD has moved into his new cage and He looks like the King of the castle as he gazes down from his Ferret Nation penthouse. He made sure to pooh in every corner and most of his bedding so as to mark his domain. He loves to play with Butters, an overweight champagne, that has become LD's best buddy. LD makes his rounds to visit his subjects in their cages just to make sure everyone is behaving and after a quick sniff or two he moves along. I must apologize, as I will be unable to update for a while. Seems my brother is in need of rescuing in Key West. I will be flying down this Sunday to get him and his car and drive to Tampa to get him into a rehab for alcohol. He has had a very tough time and after many attempts at sobriety he has reached out to me for help. If all goes well I will be back at the rescue on Tuesday afternoon. Please ask your Higher Power to grant strength and serenity to make this most important rescue go well. It has been very tough on my parents and I have seen them age more in the last year then the last ten. If this doesn’t work we don’t know where else to turn. Thank you all for being such a supportive group. Keith

FN, you really can't get a break can you? Hope all goes well. SO everyone else who has not had the distinguished privilege to meet LD should be (just a tinge) jealous as I met him this past Wednesday (while picking up my fourth addition - pics and more info in another thread). LD IS WAAAAAY TOO CUTE![/i][/u] I was tempted to let him scoot in the carrier to come home with me, but figured they'd notice . I also met Butters who is also completely adorable and made some other new friends, furry and non-furry alike. It's really amazing what FN and MN do there... and although it was a bit of a drive and crazy directions (all thanks to my non-helpful GPS) but it was *SO* worth it. If you ever get the chance to visit, you should surely take is as the 'Nature' family is very inviting and you can just tell they love each and every one (if I recall correctly, they had 22 when I showed up). BUT back to LD.... the pics really don't do him justice (although they are good 'Izzy) and it's amazing to see how he gets around and is adapting so well in a condition that I really don't think he knows he has, and if he knows it, he tries not to let it hinder a thing. Sorry for so much but, LD is such an amazing creature and THANKS to FN and MN for an adorable 4th addition and all that they do for our loving furries who found a rough patch in life....

Hello everyone. After a stressfull few days I am back at home with Mother N and the fuzzies. Little Dude seems to have grown twice his size since I had left. We are concerned that he is so frustrated at his slow moving hind legs which causes him to drag them even more when he get excited and wants to move at warp speed. We got some of the 25 foot tubes and he just goes wild. The angle of his legs is perfect for navigating the tube and he just smokes the other fuzzies in the tube race event. We are still working with the therapy when we can get him to cooperate. We got in a new little girl named Wendy, and LD and her became fast friends right away. She has the energy to keep up with him and they played for hours. I will be speaking to a neurologist next Monday to see if there is antything that can be done to help with the potty issues. We don't mind the frequent butt cleanings but, we worry it will irritate his little tushy. We are determined to get him in the best shape possible so he can be the best fuzzy he can be. On another note we got in a sweet little male named Slick. It seems he was either intentionally hurt by some kids at an apartment complex or fell. We are not getting all the story and the xrays show a fracture to the pelvis. He limps badly on the left hind and if it does not improove in 2 weeks we will need to have a plate put in the pelvic bone. Please think good thoughts for Slick and we will update soon. Father Nature and the Gang...

Hey humans, Little Dude here. As usual things at Father Natures has been really crazy. So many sick fuzzies comin in. It's sad to see how some humans just throws us away when we aren't feelin good. Why does this happen? Father says that we are Gods shooting stars and we should be cared for like children. (Whats a children?) He looks so sad lately when he holds these poor little naked guys and talks softly to them. He tells them they are safe now and promises to care for them forever no matter what the cost. On a happy note, Uncle Matt is comin to see me and Father says he is bingin a new friend. I can't wait cause I love makin new friends. Just hope Uncle got that flashy eye thing looked at by the Vet. Bye bye for now. Little Dude

OK guys... Just got back from FN's a little while ago. Took a bunch of pics for them, and wanted to post one of Little Dude and Father Nature (aka... Keith). LD is getting VERY big!!! I'd say he is about 2 lbs. ALREADY!!! At just over 4 months old, I think it's safe to say LD's gonna be a big boy!!! We're sure to find out soon enough. Good Night, Matt K.

So... Last night we went to FN's and saw LD and the rest of the fuzzies. I forgot to mention the progress of Princess, the other "paraplegic" fuzzbutt. 'Cess is the one that was brought in with "problems" due to being "dropped", aka... Was stepped on by an un-supervised toddler. Anyway... Princess was pretty bad for quite some time, and was using a "wheelchair" for a while which was tough for her size. Well... Princess is "Up and Running" (Literally)!!! She is a bit wobbly at times, but IS for the most part, completely mobile using ALL fours!!! Such an achievement for the little girl. Yahoo!!!
I figured I would post that for Keith, he has been SOOO busy lately. As a matter of fact, I might head back up today to help them with "D-Day" (Disinfection Day). They will be doing a mass cleaning, including ALL the fuzzies!!! I think right now there are about 30 ferts in the house. SOOO much to clean. I dont know how Evelyn keeps up with the laundry, alone!!! Speaking of laundry... Due to the overwhelming demand for clean bedding, FN's could use some help in that department. We all know how they (fuzzies) go through bedding!!! Any help would be SOOO appreciated!!! The "Fuzzbutts" thank any/everyone in advance!!!
So... off to the "bath house" (LOL) we go!!! Matt & Kristi

Can you point us in the right direction, Busy Izzy? Should we send coupons for detergent, make blankets or give a call and see if we can help with cleaning, laundry, etc.? I am in the Morris County area of NJ but do stop down near there to visit relatives at least weekly and would be more than happy to "pick up a load" and do it for them on a regular basis.

Can you point us in the right direction, Busy Izzy?... FN will accept any help... but right now their supply of bedding IS running low (Hammies, blankets and such). I do know that Evelyn has her "system" of doing things, but she will probably love to hear from folks willing to help out (as long as it isn't a call about a "surrender" LOL). If you do call and there is no answer during the day, just leave a message, for she is most likely doing Mother Nature stuff. Again... any kind of help is ALWAYS appreciated. Thanks in advance, DL & Teach333!!! Later, Matt K.

I don't know if this will be of any help. But a few months ago my boy murphy (about 2 years old) suddenly developed a weak leg, then it was totally paralized and I took him to the vet. they xrayed, did blood work and the like and couldn't find ANYTHING. and worse it was going in to his other leg. Now his spirits were up, he was eating, drinking all that but doing as little dude does. he would poo then get away from it.
out of frustration I spent about 4 hours one night looking around on the internet and found were a similar case had happened. the only explination was that perhaps the fert had been injured slightly to his back and it had caused the spinal cord to swell a little which cut off nerve impulses. They suggested prednisone (sp) daily to help reduce the swelling. At this point my vet said it was possible and decided to give it a try.
That was four months ago. Murphy has regained use of one leg entirely and the other one is SLOWLY getting better. he started to use the litter box after a month after I cut one side down for him. Hes still not perfect with litter and some days his legs are better than others but He is making a recovery very slowly. I don't know if its possible that its the same thing, but I figured it couldn't hurt to let you know.

I know they had said somthing having found a neurologist to bring him to for looking at. but maybe this is somthing they could their normal fert vet. They did all the same things with LD as your little one and got the same answers- nothing genetic and not an illness from the blood, and that it was most likley trauma/injury to his spine. Maybe keith or matt will get a chance to read this soon.. it would be great if it helped out even just a little

Hey Guys, Thanx for the ongoing help with everything (bedding donations & info). I just spoke to Keith. He is so busy. As a matter of fact our convo was cut short so he's going to call me back. I'll have him take some time to post an update and answer some of your ?'s. Again, they have been running "over their limit" lately. Seems like more than 1/2 the surrenders lately have been sick ones (Including a few Adrenal's), OUCH!!! So hang tight.
Later, Matt

Spoke to a specialist not a nuerologist (my mistake) and he feels that without MRI and CAT scan ($2800.00 plus) and based on the radiographs that it is too early to make any diagnosis. He feels that we should let his bones develope and keep working with the PT to strengthen his hind end. He also said that LD will move however it is easiest and fastest for him which is dragging his end sometimes. He said we were doing right with the carpet and to stay on the same course. To everyone who donated bedding, it has helped wonderfully, but we are going through it so fast with the sick fuzzies that we don't have enough to keep from washing it to death. LD alone needs his changed 4-5 times per day. He eats like a horse and potties the same way LOL. We have only taken in 5 adoptable fuzzies out of the last 11 and all the rest are sick or in poor health. Have any of the other rescues here been seeing the same increase in sick fuzzies? On a good note, Skittles, has gained 13 ounces and shows much more stability in her hind end. She was under 10 ounces when we got her from animal control. We don't know what we would do if it was not for the support we get from our TLH family. Little Dude is doing great otherwise. He can tire out 2 or 3 fuzzies before he get weary and looks for a place to sleep. (Which is ALWAYS in a tough place to get him out of). Will update again soon. Keith

Sorry, Simms I forgot to reply. Vet feels he is much too young to start on a steroid and would rather keep up with the PT. Thank you we are ALWAYS open for suggestions and help. Keith

Keith No problem, like I said my vet had no clue cause nothing was coming up on the xrays or tests. I thought I would pass it along, the pred was good cause I had it handy. But he doesn't need it nearly as much anymore and hes STILL making a good recovery. and i know what you mean about work. For a while cause murphy drug himself around he had rubbed his boy parts raw and I had to help him pee. I never thought in my LIFE i would be helping squeeze a ferret bladder. I'll keep him in my thoughts and I'm looking to start making some snugglys soon. I go shopping this weekend I may have some to send down

Good morning human friends. It's me Little Dude. I am having a wonderful time here with all my buddies. I made a new friend named Skittles. She has been here for a while and loves to play. In the begining she was very skinny and liked to sleep alot but now she plays with me in the tubes. Just to let everyone know, Mother Nature is teaching me sign language like she has done with other fuzzies here and I am learning to understand what the humans are saying. Mother told me how everyone on the Hammie is helping us with bedding. I realy don't mean to make such a mess and I know it makes alot of work for Mother and all you fine humans that send me such soft and beatiful sleepy stuff. Thank you to everyone and maybe when Uncle Mat comes he can do some more flashy things. I realy love when folks come to visit and Father says Aunty Darklight might make a trip to see me. I remember how she held me tight the day she took me home and I got this feeling everything would be OK forever.
