Well, usually they don't open their eyes til about 4 weeks of age, they usually have all their fur color by the time their eyes open too. We are talking about wild ferrets so, maybe it's different. This baby was born with more baby fuz...so who knows. I can't imagine keeping track of a bunch of blind kits in the wild for 4 weeks. Georgia keeps a really close eye on her baby though.

I was wondering how her nest stayed so clean because I've seen her poop in there. Turns out she's used to humans. They didn't handle her. But all of a sudden the nest was jiggling - someone was taking the lid off the plastic box. She kept trying to go out the entrance - you could see movement outside of it. Eventually someone put the lid down vertically between her and the entrance and scooped something out. Then the nest jiggled a bit again. In true ferret form - Georgia immediately went over the the corner near the entrance and pooped!

Been busy the past few days...haven't had time to check on Georgia and the kit. Wow...what a difference a few days make! That baby is getting so big! There is color changes, baby looks darker and it's legs/paws are getting dark too. Plus they are sleeping right up next to the door. Maybe Mom is playing guard...to a kit who's wanting to go play outside. Too Cute!

On my computer, if you right click on the cam, it gives you a zoom option. The picture is kinda wierd when zoomed, but you can see that baby really well. Don't know if all computers give you that option. Worth a try though.

Hum...I just checked in on Georgia and baby, their nest has been moved. You can no longer see the door to outside in the picture. It least not right now anyway. Maybe zoo keepers are hoping it will take the baby a little while to find the door again. If that's the case, they got lots to learn about ferrets!

Hum...today there is a bowl of food in the nest. Guess it's safer for Mom and baby to stay in the nest? Hum...

I just noticed that - it says: Kit update: We have learned that the kit is male. Some people have wondered about the ferrets' nest boxes. We have been cleaning the one on the cam every other day but now that the kit is three weeks old, we will clean the nest box every day. We are also now putting a food bowl in the box. I knew someone was cleaning - just wasn't sure how often. That boy is big! And right now he's all alone and sleeping.

I haven't checked on him in a few days and can not believe the changes! His paws and tail end are already darkened. His eyes look like they're ready to open now. And he twitches a lot in his sleep.

Mother and Son are now MIA and have been for almost 2 hours. I saw the mom in the nesting box - she went outside. Not sure where the baby is.

Yesterday afternoon that baby wanted to go outside so bad! Georgia wanted to take a nap. Baby would wait till Mom got settled for her nap, then he'd be out that door in a flash. But Mom being a Mom with eyes in the back of her head, knew excatly what he was up too. She'd be out that door to drag him back in nothing flat...it was too cute! That baby is so big and just the cutest fuzzy ever....ok, well, after my cute kids!

Talk about ferrets being ferrets, I start watching she is dragging him back into the box then she starts digging in the bedding while he is trying to eat the food, then realizing what he is doing she goes over and flips the food dish over, then over again so she can eat. so funny.
